Closet or ASOS dress?

Hello - newbie here!

I'm adding to my wardrobe a new flared / swishy dress for work. I tend to suit darker shades as pale colours wash my face out and make me look pasty and ill. Sad

I work in a fairly smart office environment, but not overly restrictive on skirt length (knee-length is the norm).

I've found two I love which are perfect for my shape (hourglass). I love the navy blue, turn-up sleeves and slight high-low skirt of the Closet dress and the gentle A-line skirt, kimono sleeves and lace design of the ASOS dress.

Thoughts?

Any chance you could buy both?

For work I'd say the closet one

I much prefer the Asos one, the closet one is nice but a bit conservative. But then again, it is for work so the closet one might be better.

Oh yes I agree theASOS one is nicer. But for work the closet one is better. It depends on your work I suppose

I'd love to buy both but would rather buy just the one.

If you click on the blue link (ASOS) in the post, it'll take you there.

I much prefer the Asos however I work in a corporate environment but it would seem a bit too 'dressy' for me. Maybe it's the lace. Depends on your workplace though as ironically the Closet one looks a bit casual and more like a summer dress. Both are nice though.

I agree the Closet one would be more appropriate for work. I have a few Closet dresses and they're nice quality.

Love the Asos one but none left in my size Sad

Both nice - I too prefer the Asos dress but agree not really suitable for work - although that may depend on where you work!

The Closet one though has the look of a dress that may be fine on the model but when you put it on reveals a bit too much clevage on a normal human - but again that may depend on your body type.

If you really want it for work, I'd keep looking tbh.

Btw - I just looked and the ASOS skater dress is rather randomly only available in size 8 or size 18!

Discovered in online reviews that the Closet dress has hip pockets! Grin

Hooray for pockets on a dress!

I think the Closet one for work. The lace on the ASOS doesn't look right for work, I think it's too "going outy".

The Closet one of its for work. You may find you'll neee a vest underneath.

Can I say neither? Pretty dresses both, but Asos is too much lace for office environment, and the Closet one has too low neckline.

I love the closet one. ASOS one too dressy for work I think

What's closet sizing like?

Report
AvacadoSalad · 16/01/2017 13:13

Online reviews would suggest that they run a size small; I'm a 10 so a 12 should be OK...

12s are out of stock, so it's either a tight fit (10) or a more relaxed / loose fit (14)

I've plumped for the Closet one in a size 14 - around an actual size 12 considering online reviews - a relaxed fit rather than running the risk of squeezing breasts in with a size 10 Blush.

Dress arrived today (UPS)...

Very light and airy; the skirt seems heavy enough to avoid the risk of flashing knickers!

Very soft - top half seems to be lined (skirt unlined). I tried it on with no bra and it was very cossetting (sorry if TMI) - I didn't want to get out of it! The cold metal zip was a shock!

Regarding fit - the band below the bust gently hugs your waist (though as I've ordered effectively a size up it would do). If I'd order my size - 10 (12 in Closet's size guide) - I'd imagine that a food baby would only just be comfortable!

Sleeves come nearly to my elbow. Zip travels from just above my derrière all the way up my back.

There are two loose-ish 'pockets' for breasts to seek cover in and the crossover neckline's cover rips up any wandering eyes' ticket for a sightseeing tour of that day's lingerie (or none!) even when it's a size or so loose.

The skirt falls just above the knee and is light enough so that it swishes with ease but heavy enough to avoid blowing up around your face whilst showing the world that your thong doesn't quite fit.

All in all a fabulous dress - to cap it all my fiancé adores it!
