Oily skincare routine-help!

Hi there, I'm 34 and have quite oily skin, I'm noticing fine lines so thought I'd best overhaul my almost non existent skincare routine.

I'm loving hot cloth cleansing as advocated by Sali Hughes, but I'm finding serum and moisturiser too heavy and greasy. Can you recommend what is best to use for skin that is already oily? I was looking nice and glowy when I started the routine but now have more spots than ever!

At the moment I'm using simple light moisturiser with spf15 in the morning (are there any oil free ones with SPF?) Followed by serum. In the eve I'm using Neutrogena oil free moisturiser which I like a lot more but doesn't have SPF, and then serum.

Ive tried protect and perfect serum (nice but quite $$), aldi as recommended on here and superdrug as recommended by Sali Hughes, the latter two in particular nake me look very chip-pan!

So what's the best thing to do?

Many thanks for your help!

I use an oil based cleanser (I'm a big fan of the Emma Hardie one, and the oskia Renaissance gel/oil/balm stuff), then follow with just moisturiser in the day time (Ren youth vitality stuff - a pea sized amount and mainly on my cheeks, nose and forehead, just lightly pat the residue onto my temples/chin/neck, which are my really greasy bits). In the evening I use NIOD non-acid acid precursor (like acid toning without the added inflammation risk) and then literally just two or three drops of night oil (plain rosehip oil or Aurelia night oil).

My skin has been MILES better since I added more oil into my cleansing routine, it seems to rebalance it and stop it going into overdrive. My top tips are to remove oily cleanser really thoroughly, and use a tiny amount of a decent moisturiser rather than lots of one of those teenage 'oily skin' moisturisers which do bugger all.

Without wishing to complicate things, I actually also use a product called NIOD CAIS (google it) which targets signs of ageing and has absolutely zero oiliness, it takes the place of the serum step but has the texture of water so doesn't add any moisturising at all - if I add two oily moisturising products it is too much, even if I am v mean with them. It has definitely improved my lines and wrinkles.

Just a word of warning, as you mentioned you've been getting more spots since starting your new routine.
I absolutely cannot tolerate most common oils in my skincare. So anything containing olive or castor oil are definitely out.
I've had luck with using acids, bha & aha. And then adding moisture with various serums. I like Asian products. They really suit my skin - if I avoid my triggers!

Hi, You said you put serum on after moisturiser but serum always goes on first

I have heard you're meant to put on chemical sunscreen before anything, including serum, so maybe OP does it for that reason? I use a physical sunscreen (separate to moisturiser) so put it on last.

Sunscreen always goes on last with the exception of ones like ultrasun which need to go on to clean dry skin then any other skincare on top. However op says she just uses a simple moisturiser with spf. It should be serum, moisturiser, then spf (if you're using a seperate one)

Sorry, my mistake it was late when I wrote the post! I put on serum and then moisturiser on top. Thanks for your help!
