Trying to find smart black dress, for work into early evening. Tummy is getting the way of everything. Only seem to suit V - neck plus anything higher gives me claustrophobia. Anywhere on line to look for something not in polyester or some other crappy material acetate like.

Budget around £50-£80.

Can't believe Marks and Spencer, don't have this wrapped. They need some new designers in there I need loads of these and then some in white and red. My shape doesn't suit much of what is out there. Its so depressing and time consuming. Size is around 12/14.

Cos had one sculptural dress I bought amazing. But new stuff has nothing.

If you don't want polyester what fabric are you imagining - silk, wool, linen....
Would ponte roma be OK? Boden do quite a few heavy cotton jersey/ottoman dresses.
Are you looking for this kind of thing or more fitted?

Wow! Thanks for responding Raising Steam. It looks great, how amazingly clever of you. Not sure if the V is deep enough but love that quirky double thing across the front. This has to see me thru expensive restaurant etc.

I prefer Light silk with light cotton lining or high quality viscose. Cotton always looks too casual on me.

I don't like too fitted or too much like a potato sack/pregnant look. So its a fine line, nor too heavy as I don' t do well or feel well in heavy fabrics. Its a little over budget but definitely something to try. THANK YOU. if you have any other ideas do let me know. Its such a shame that old links die. Sure the shops are missing a trick here and should work out forwarding link to something else similar. Seems odd to me that they don't.

Another recommendation for Boden Ponte dresses. I have my eye on this one at the moment. I have a similar one from a couple of years ago and the slightly flared skirt covers up the tummy without making me look about 5mo pregnant. I am a total convert to Ponte fabric, it is extremely flattering and 'smoothing' but not too hot.

Well I was interested because I'm the opposite, I have to have a defined waist, but people here are always recommending Hush, Other Stories etc for dresses and I see other women looking very together in slightly loose dresses, as long as they aren't too long, with good shoes and accessories.

this was the other one I noticed. Good luck in your search!

Hi Piffpaffpoff, That Boden one is a too severe on me. Need a V or a generous scoop neck. Thanks again Raising Steam, definitely going for this, just hoping its well made and will last. I don't expect at that price it will. Funny my Ghost Viscose, lasted for years and is still so damn pretty with all the embroidery.

Lovely dress, derelict!! I'm too big on tummy to wear that. I always think wraps suit thin long girls, not tubby shaped ones.

I think they suit the curvier figure. Could you wear spanx or a waist nipper? I have a similar shape and wear a control garment under dresses.

Hi DMB

No, I"m not a fan of either, I like Empire or sort of sculptural shirt dress, don't like waists.
