non-traditional wedding dress

SO, I get married in 7 weeks and I have no idea what to wear. oh, and I've not done anything about those 20 kilos I wanted to loose either.

I'm a size 16/18, 6ft tall with big boobs, hip, tummy, bum... I'm not wearing a traditional wedding dress, but at this rate I won't be wearing anything at all.

Where oh where shall I start looking for a dress?!

Gah! I hate shopping :(

Ooh, interestingGrin

What's your budget? Any clues on what the dress might be like, length, colour, sleeves/not, necklines?

this is a great dress
this is rather lovely
like how dramatic this one is

Something a bit more floaty and romantic (and cheaper) www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-womenswear/pink-shutter-pleat-gown/invt/53015936

What sort of styles do you like and what colours did you have in mind?

Phase eight does some beautiful gowns and being tall means they'd probably fit just right as do seem to be v.long. www.phase-eight.com/fcp/product/phase-eight/occasion-dresses/zita-embellished-full-length-dress/202823070
the main site is upto an 18 or 20 but their plus sized range has similar style on a curvier model www.studio-eight.com/fcp/product/studio8/occasion-dresses/henrietta-dress/230085736

Control undies/slips are a great help!

I like the first 2 Mrs Lettuce linked to and also the first Phase 8 one from Scatty FWIW.

thanks all.
I like the first HoF one, and have been browsing Phase 8 and some definite potentials. I always thought Phase 8 was a bit mother-of-the-bride but they actually have some lovely stuff.

I've browsed Karen Millen and L K Bennet recently and they have some lovely dresses too, but you need to pick them out.

I think I was thinking something with sleeves as my arms aren't, ahem, in as good shape as they have been, and I shall certainly been Spanx'ed up to the hilt :)

Added to the mix is the fact that I have two boys under 4yo and work full time and VERY few free weekends left to go shopping. I think I shall have to do some mammoth online orders - will start with the big dept stores/brands I think - and just start trying some things on.

I think I'll go out and buy some fashion magazines too to see what's out there and get more of an idea of what I fancy. I have a vague idea of what suits me in terms of neck line (eg shift dresses are a big NO NO) so I should be able to make a start.

oh and I actually really like the idea or a cuit. Or even trousers and an amazing jacket and the right accessories

This trouser suit is very simple but very nice, maybe with something along the lines of this under?
