Cutting off long hair

I'm finally taking the plunge and cutting my very long hair off. I've had it long since I was 18 so it's a big deal to me (I'm hurtling towards 40). The thing is I fancy a shoulder length choppy cut. I hope I'm not going to make myself look old - I am doing the right thing aren't I...???

I can't give you any style advice but please would you consider donating your hair to the Little Princess Trust. They make wigs for children affected by hair loss after cancer treatment.

Yes I would definitely consider that. How do I do it?? Do I bag it up at the hair dressers then send it off?

Mine wasn't super long, about bra strap, but I recently got it cut into a shoulder length blunt cut long bob and I love it. I'm 39 and had the fear of looking mumsy but I think I look younger. Also it's loads quicker to dry.

That's exactly what I want Loula my problem is that I don't have thick hair - can I still pull that style off??

I recently sent them 8 inches of hair. It was very liberating. My hairdresser tied it in two pony tails, secured with a hair band at each end, and then I wrapped them in cling film ready to post. The lady in the Post Office didn't bat an eyelid when she asked what was in the packet and I told her it was hair.

Mine is fairly thick but fine textured and inclined to tangle and frizz, I would ask your hairdresser what they think. As long as it's not really thin I'd have thought it would be ok. A blunt cut gives a satisfyingly swishy amount of thickness at the ends.

Do you normally do lots with it? I went from unkempt waist length to a neat blunt bob and found looking after it too much effort. Now have it in a close crop, which is much better - and I think it makes me look younger.

I do nothing with my hair and it's really quite lank. The thing is when it's washed and nice and straight everyone says how nice it looks but I've had this style for YEARS. It's time for a change and I'm sick of chickening out!
