Knee length boots, wide calves

I give in. I want a pair of low heeled, tan coloured, good quality boots. I have wide calves.

So far my choices are plasticcy and cheap, ultra flat or high heels or stupendously expensive. I need to try them on, I also have odd sized feet

Any ideas?

Duo Boots, now incredibly stupidly renamed 'Ted and Muffy' - at the expensive end of the market, but incredibly well made and will last forever.
Their sale is still on, I think.

I have the same problem. Short legs and muscular calves. Got a pair in M & S eventually but weren't exactly what I was looking for.

I've had a couple of pairs from clarks that have an elasticated panel which fit well.

Also fly London which have an adjustable buckle but a bit more casual.

I bought some from Sainsburys- I have really wide calves. They are leather with a stretchy panel. Cost £55 I think.

Fly London boots are all too narrow for me - the adjustable buckle is no good, if there's not enough width in the first place.


I like Dr Marten casual boots (not work boots) and I can get my 43cm girth calves in them with jeans on! (the search for jeans that get over my lower legs is another story....)

I used to swear by Duo/Ted & Muffy (hate!) but have totally gone off them as most of their stuff is really frumpy. What they call biker boots are mum boots with an extra strap and buckle. And they've hiked their already expensive prices by another third.

Agree re. Fly London being too narrow - I have a pair of calf boots which I can just about struggle on but are great once on.

I've sort of given up trying to buy knee boots. There are so few retailers/manufacturers that even publish the calf width on their websites and I've had to return so many pairs that I just CBA now. It's not even just the calf widths, but the top of the foot and the ankle as they seem to be insanely tiny. And whoever invented back zips deserves their own place in hell.

I have a few pairs of long boots (also wide calf) and I dread the day they die.

Actually, I dont now that I have found a local shoe shop that does repairs. They just heeled and soled my black boots, brought them back to life.

I think you get what you pay for and Duo were always excellent value and quality. Not sure now - and I hate the stupid new name.

I just bought some over the knee suede boots from Duo and I love them. In the sale, and am very happy. I've bought several pairs from Duo over the years. Will stick with them.

I've bought 3 pairs in the Ted n Muffy sale.Admittedly two are from the Duo clearance.They're beautiful and seem to be made in a very similar way to my tan Duo over the knee boots I've had for 4-5 years and I have reheeled and resoled every year.I really don't like the new name but love the black and White boxes the new range arrive in.

Ted and Muffy if you're reading please do more Boots with a small chunky heel?1-1.5 inches.

I may be the only one who thinks Duo Boots are not good quality. I purchased 3 pairs. It was nice that they fit but they all looked exceptionally tired after one season and didn't see the end of the next one. And I'm not talking just the soles but none of the materials felt good quality to me.

I'm also not a fan of the stretchy panels that make boots fit wide calves. It makes me think of the panels on maternity jeans, no one ever wears those when they aren't pg so why do this with shoes. I'm too picky!

I think it's a boring tedious job but I just kept endlessly trying on boots and in the end I finally found a pair of boots I would describe as being like a straight leg trouser. It's mid calf and somehow I fit in it. It's v slimming. I've had it for 10 years. The leather is fabulous, aging nicely, and I've resoled once (some years I don't wear them). It was from Office, so a random thing but u would recomend you keep trying things on!

Duo in TKMaxx? Why didn't I think of trying there?

I have a pair from Duo but the foot size is a tad too small. Having said that they seem to look as good as they did when I bought them, 7 years ago and they have recently been resoled. But I won't be wearing them for work, they aren't comfortable enough for 7 hours on my feet. I seem to be a Fluffy and Ned preferred customer No idea how that happened.

I love those tan Gabor ones though. They are almost exactly what I am looking for, just not in my size

I always get the Duo/Ted &Muffy boots rehearsed very early in their 'career' but they're lovely other than that.

I have tried Evans and the extra width seems to carry on into the foot, I don't have wide feet. And currently their boots feel horrid. Though I will keep checking, as my last pair from them, whilst making me clomp like a Monster, lasted forever.

I've had success with Timberland and Tamaris boots as well as Duo

If you can get your hand on Frye boots I guarantee you will be very, very happy. They're a US brand, premium leather, beautifully made and many styles are perfect for larger calves.

They're not cheap and obv there's import tax to consider unless you can buy them in the USA, but they will last a lifetime and get better with age.
