Postpartum hair loss?

I remember reading while I was pregnant that hair can get thicker during pregnancy, and then be lost once baby is born.

I didn't notice any change in my hair while pregnant with DD, however over the last week or two I have noticed I am losing a lot more hair than usual while washing or brushing it. Not so much that it's noticeable to other people, but enough that I am slightly concerned!

I wondered if this was related to DD, however she is now 16 weeks so seems a little late for postpartum symptoms.

Does anyone have any experience of this, or tips on how to strengthen my hair?

You don't lose as much hair when pregnant as it is stuck on a growth phase. After birth and when your hormone levels change you start to lose all the extra hair. I moulted everywhere with dd for what seemed like months. I don't think it started right away either

I'm loosing loads of hair, my dd is 6 months. Luckily my hair is quite thick but even my dp is noticing. I find it alarming

God, I remember with dc1 at about 16 weeks having a major panic as my hair seemed to be falling out at a ridiculous rate.

I'd be finding it in dc1's mouth and wrapped around their fingers and toes. It would be all over my clothes and in my food and it created a horrible web over the carpet and in my bed.

I tried caffeine and thickening shampoos as I was worried I was going bald as I could pull handfuls out in the shower. I wasn't going bald obviously, it was just all the hair shedding that hadn't done when I was pg so it was all going back to normal.

Dc2 is 17 weeks and the same is happening again and I am not bothered this time around.

Ride it out I say op, it sounds perfectly normal and should stop soon.

Oh, I remember this! It was EVERYWHERE! I hate loose hairs and they were all over the floors, my clothes, every surface. I'd shower and wipe the bath out before I ran it for dd and I (and after obviously and DH would shower in between) and we'd be swimming in stray hairs even though my hair was up! It passes, thank god!

You're about at the right time for it to start. Hair is stupid, it even takes 3 months to notice a stomach bug before it drops out.

It's one of the most annoying, irritating part of having babies, unclogging the plug, leaving little piles of hair all over and the itchy spiky stage as it grows back.

It does pass eventually though.

DS is 14mo and I have a nice halo of regrowth about 2-3 inches long frizzing around my face. Something to look forward to, OP

Yes mummybare - was about to say the same. I hate it and the bits near my ears flick up like fucking wings I look completely ridiculous. Keep having to pull Kirby grips out of DDs mouth as I need at least 5 to look vaguely presentable and lose 3 on a daily basis!

mummy I am in exactly the same spot as you, except my DS is a month older than yours. The weird new frizzy hair is the bane of my life. It won't behave and going out in any sort of rain is a complete disaster.

I am also currently 30 weeks pregnant so god knows what state I'll be in in a year's time

It's totally normal. It all starts to grow back at the same time too so you can end up with a little halo of baby hairs or a very light fringe.

Mine has just started shedding and DD is 20 weeks. Same thing happened with DD1 and it didn't start looking any better until I fell pregnant again when she was 11 months old.
I hate it. Hate the baby hair regrowth!

I have flicky bits too, Fusion, by my temples. Can't do a thing with 'em.

Mine shed a lot, I mean really fell out, until my period returned (12 months, BF). It's very thin now but I do have an inch or 2 of regrowth at the temples.

Just know that it's normal OP.

Very upsetting though. Mine has pretty much stopped although I'm terrified to get highlights (which I badly need) incase I start it again. Ds is 14 months.

Mine starting falling out at 6 months despite taking hair vitamins that was supposed to help. The worst part was the regrowth was thick/ curly (like public hair to be honest) despite the rest of my hair being fine/straight.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I though it was too late to be baby related but it's good to know it's normal!

I don't think my OH has noticed yet but I'm sure he will when he next unclogs the shower drain!!

Baby was born in May. Hair started falling out in August and it's only just stopped Honestly, every time I washed my hair so much fell out it completely covered the plug hole. My house was COVERED in hair.

Thankfully I have super thick hair and actually wanted to lose it, but even I was alarmed by the quantity. I could have stuffed a pillow.

So relieved it's normal but has anyone got bald patches? I have one on my hairline - it looks awful and I can't tie my hair back.

My DH wants me to go to the dr but I doubt they can do anything
