Metallic loafers - nice or naff?

I was looking at these Boden loafers:

Got loads of winter boots, I'd like some smart-ish shoes for the autumn.

I'm in my early 40s and like to look fairly well put together without looking frumpy.

So - loafers or some other style? Metallic or patent or something else?

I love that loafers have come back into fashion however am not loving the metallic ones... They just say grandma to me sorry.

However these from Clarks are lovely I think

I like a bit of metallic but, as someone who'll be in opaques for the next 8 months, I'm not sure how the legwear would work.

Hmm, maybe I'll stick to navy or black patent then....

Prefer the Clarks. I love metallic shoes (have, ahem, 4 pairs) and I think they go with everything - a bit like leopard print, metallic is a de facto neutral.

I bought these last week, I collected them today, they are really lovely, very soft for patent leather - I bought navy.

I bought these last month (my winter shoes all seemed to wear out/look tired together!), they are really nice too.

Sizing is very different though, a 39 in the top one fits fine whereas the black ones are big and I have put a leather insole in them - still room. Narrow foot though.

I really love the Dune shoes this year, never had any until last month but they seem well made so far. Bought from JL as I thought they would be good if I had any probs as I hadn't bought the brand before.

Metallic Vans work well - in gold or silver. Less hint of the 80s, more scandi modern.

Dune ones are lovely too. Shame I just missed their 20% off promotion!

Yes, Dancer, I got the benefit of that price matched at JL.

I have been wearing the patent navy loafers since Wednesday - so comfortable, I love them.

Think I might try the Dune ones, are they the sort of shoes you can also wear with socks or not?

Yes, socks or not here (actually those tiny nude sock things rather than no socks), probably a major fashion fail but I care not Smile
