How to get that beach hair look..

Just wondering about any tips people might have for this.

I love this look, not least cos i am waaaay too lazy for blow drying and straightening :-) And it seems a whole lot more acceptable to wear your hair like this every day in the summer, hurrah.

To try and make it beachy, i dry the front bit of my hair, leave the rest to dry naturally, then sleep on it and in the morning wet and scrunch a bit with Bumble & Bumble Creme Contour (a Sali Hughes recommendation). But its all a bit hit and miss.

Am i missing any key techniques / products?

I usually wear my hair in beachy waves. For some reason the back of my hair dries in perfect waves yet the front and sides stay poker straight Hmm

I usually let it air dry then grab some largish tongs, and holding them upside down wrap chunks of hair around, don't use the clamp just wrap round and keep the ends out.

Kind of like using a wand, but I don't like the way wands are skinny at one end.

It takes about 10 mins m, spritz with a bit of sea salt spray and it's done and lasts a couple of days.

It's worth spending a few extra minutes to do it properly and then deconstruct rather than to do it messily from the start.

Does anyone have recommendations for salt spray that doesn't leave hair feeling gunky or is there a knack to using it to avoid gunkiness?

Most do leave a residue, I spray onto my hands then work into my hair.

I have seen a homemade receive on Pinterest that I'm going to have a go at making.

I wash my hair the night before, then section it off whilst damp, twist each section round and round then flip the ends up to my scalp and fix with cross crossed bobby pins. In the morning unpin, and gently separate the twists. Use sea salt spray and scrunch a little.

You do look a little Princess Leia when its all pinned up but does work.

Sometimes I take the GHDs very gently over the waves to tame if necessary.

I make my own salt spray - just lots of sea salt mixed with boiling water and then I decant into a spray bottle. If you want to, you can add a little bit of conditioner and essential oils, but I CBA

Thanks for the tips everyone - will definitely try with tongs (maybe on a sunday night and then hope it'll last a couple of days!) and also the Princess Leia twists :)

I have a Toni & Guy salt spray but actually much prefer the Bumble & Bumble cream, its better at creating that separated, piecey look. My hair seems to just frizz with the salt spray.

Umberto ginnai (sp - sorry!) salt spray is very good I find (it s on 3 for 2 in boots at the moment- get their protein repair spray too it s brilliant)

I have thick thick hair - and love beaky waves - one of the most important things for it is a good cut and explaining to the stylist that you sometimes want to style your hair that way. Some subtle layers and cutting really help it.

I get out of the shower and blast my hair with the hairdryer to take the sopping wetness away and then go over it with the hairdryer on the cold setting. Once it's damp rather than wet I plait my hair really roughly all over, in all different sizes, doesn't matter how, there's no art to it. I sleep with the plaits in and in the morning it has a splendid beachy/boho vibe. Waaaay better than sweating to death trying to straighten!

Bumble and bumble surf spray is great and I've just tried their shampoo and conditioner. It's pricey, but I've got the travel set for £16-18 with spray, shampoo and conditioner so I could try.ni found the travel size spray lasted a while.

I've been in the sea today thhough so have perfect beach hair!
