Benefit eyeshadow looked amazing on my friend but over the top on me. Help me please find a nice natural eyeshadow

Last week my friend was wearing such a pretty eyeshadow, very light but with just a little shimmer. I noticed it stayed put on her all day too. She told me it was a set from Benefit called world famous neutrals.
Been into my local Benefit today and they tried it on me but it looks nothing like my friends. I said I wanted a natural, pretty look for daytime but she used a bit of all the colours & made it smoky looking. It's far too much for me as I normally don't wear any but want look a bit more groomed now I've hit the big 40! It also seemed much more glittery than on my friend, and my eyelids actually looked a but wrinkled with it on!

I have brown highlighted hair, olive skin & dark circles under my eyes. Can anyone recommend a brand/colour that will give me the look I'm after?
I'm disappointed as my dh was going to treat me to the Benefit set for my bday but it just did nothing for me. I feel like everyone else knows how to get make up right except me! I don't want waste money. Thanks for any suggestions.

The urban decay naked palette is full of beautiful nudes. Or go to Bobbi Brown...the absolute best for nude eyeshadows in my humble opinion!

Actually reading your post more carefully, Benefit counters have a bad habit of giving customers an over the top night time going out look rather than the subtle day look they want. You might be fine with a gentler touch on the palette you tried out.

I would second the Bobbi Brown recommend. Or Maybelline do a range of cream eye shadows in some great neutrals, they are often on 3 for 2. They stay put all day.

Had a look at the urban decay naked palettes, the colours look lovely & neutral. Just wondering whether to get one of these sets or buy just one or two single colours from Bobbi Brown?
