MOLE removal central London anyone?

I've a sun spot/ mole on my arm that has changed a bit lately- is redder and slightly flaky. I suspect it is ok but want it checked. My local dermo (private) is booked for the next 5 weeks so thinking of London.

Just phoned the Sk:n Clinic and they are £140 for an appt. Removal would be around £400. The only thing that slightly concerns me is that they take a £50 deposit- never ever had this for private appts- and assume I'd lose it if had to cancel. I also know that the dr I'd see doesn't work there all the time- they appear to be a Cheshire GP with a dermo diploma who presumably does a stint in London once a week.

Any other recommendations?

Is it not an option to go with your NHS GP? They will refer you fairly quickly. You'll also be assured that it will be investigated properly once removed. Don't let your GP do a shave procedure, this loses the deeper histology basically so you'll never know if it was Ok or not. And a GP can't determine this just by looking.

I'd have thought the NHS would be really slow and as I have private insurance would much rather use that.

Oh Ok. I suspect the NHS would actually put you on a two weeker if it looks dodgy enough, worth bearing in mind.

I've now made an appt with the Mole Clinic who do a digital imaging thingy of moles for £50, and an appt with a specialist nurse. If it looks dodgy then their report can be used as a referral for a dermo for removal, under private insurance. I don't think it is dodgy ( fingers crossed) but may have it removed anyway for cosmetic reasons.

Would you mind telling where the mole clinic is, please? I need to get this done too. Thank you!

It's Argyle St just off Oxford Circus.

Just to add - the Mole Clinic is fab and well worth the money. I had a top to toe screen 2 weeks ago and one dodgy looking mole was imaged. I was due to wait 3 days for the report and got a call to explain the results before the report was sent (so I didn't get alarmed, as the mole is bit dodgy looking). Seeing a consultant tomorrow. Will definitely be booking an annual check with the Mole Clinic for peace of mind.

That's helpful thanks.
Was a bit worried about them because I'd not heard much about them, but the fee seems reasonable and I expect they will do much the same as the Skin Clinic . Worst case it's Basal Cell carcinoma but maybe not.

Hi moleywoley,

Eurgh, dreaded moles. Last person I saw for similar thing was Veronique Bataille at the Princess Grace near Harley Street, she was very nice and sensible.

BTW and completely apropos of nothing but she was oui vraiment chic/sexie too. How DO older French women do it? I want to be French when I grow up.

She looks pretty legit too, just googled her properly.

I had a dodgy mole. Went to the GP. Had an appointment at dermatology dept with two weeks. They took it off in the next two weeks. Had to wait 4 weeks for lab results. NHS canbe good. Mole fine btw.

I went to Malcolm Rustin for moles:

finder.bupa.co.uk/Consultant/view/16835/professor_malcolm_rustin

He's really nice and has removed 2 - one on my head and one on my ankle. And he didn't remove a further 2, as they weren't problematic.

(Both moles he removed were fine, BTW.)
