Confused - liquid gold, pixie glow or clarins exfoliating toner ?

As result of various blog reading (C.H etcetera ..) I am quite happy with my skin routine and it is looking quite good ...However I don't do acid toning and want to try it . I've heard good things mentioned of liquid gold , pixi glow and clarins brightening exfoliating toner - so which is best ? What should I go for ??

I use Pixi Glow. It doesn't irritate my skin, which can be sensitive, and my overall skin tone looks more even. Helped with breakouts too.

Yes have read positive things - and that is the cheapest of the three ! Grin
Just wondered what's the difference between them all and what the strongest is ? My skin isn't sensitive so reckon go for maximum effect !

Liquid is the strongest AHA. It's based on glycolic acid. Use 2 or 3 times a week only and last thing at night after cleansing. Its not a daily toner by any means.

Liquid Gold. Sorry.

Tried Pixi Glow. Lovely, but expensive when delivery costs included. Switched to REN Clarimatte clarifying toner. It is just as good and cheaper. M&S stock it, so I often buy it when they have an offer on.

They are all different. Pixi Glow is the cheapest and is meant for twice a day toning. It does have witch-hazel in which doesn't really do anything for your skin and can irritate - someone trying it on the Caroline Hirons thread (please come and join us!) has reacted to it but doesn't mean you will.

REN Clarimatte apparently has been reformulated not to have acid in it anymore. If the ingredients still have lactic and glycolic in it would be fantastic, like the Pixi-Glow but if it's true that they've gone then it won't be good.

Clarins is stronger - CH doesn't recommend you use it every day.

Liquid Gold is the strongest - it's more a treatment than a toner and you are supposed to use it 2-3 times a week only.

Thankyou ... Think I may go for liquid gold and use twice a week for more of a treatment usage .
Have been reading the CH thread and sometimes hard to see the wood for the trees Grin!

Are there any shops which sell Pixi Glow,or do you have to buy it online?

Report
Kundry · 26/04/2015 16:48

I think they only have one shop in Carnaby Street, otherwise it's all on line.

I found LG very emperor's new clothes tbh, I used it for about 6 mths and didn't notice anything. Going straight for the GA peel 30% though was wow!Grin

Wow that was brave! I'm on a 20% salicylic peel and started at 10% - even that was noticeable straight away. 20% is a lot of tingle Grin

Pixi glow tonic is now stocked on ASOS. Except of course it sold out in like, a day, so you'll have to keep checking for a restock. Then pounce!

Boots do two cheapy acid toners - a Botanics one and a Time Delay one. I have the TD one and I really like it. However I think the Botanics one has a smaller ingredient list so might try that next. Both are worth a shot if you want to dip your toe in without spending the cash!

Kundry, I only did 1 minute a week to begin with, and never got beyond 4. The recs were to go up to 6, but when I tried 5 the next day I was Angry

I've tried Clarins and Liquid Gold. Neither are toners in the traditional sense, they are exfoliating treatments to be used a few times a week initially, then if you have no problems you could use them more often.
The Clarins is good - it contains a mixture of acids (glycolic and lactic I think). I use it at night with a facial oil on top, and in the morning my skin is smooth and glowing. Liquid Gold is glycolic but I haven't been feeling the love with it. It stings and leaves my skin bumpy and sore Sad Haven't tried pixi.
I think it depends on your skin type and what works for you - mine is acne prone and sensitive if that helps.

I keep saying that skincare is such a minefield. LG fixed my cystic acne bumps almost overnight!

It is, Twitch. It really is trial and error. Everyone raves about LG, gutted that it doesn't work for me Sad

Claims are doing a promotion at the moment where they will do a skin analysis and you will then get two free samples if that's any good op

I have been eyeing up the REN Clarimatte too as about to order a few other REN products so thinking of sticking with one brand for now, anyway on Escentual website it says this about ingredients:

Created with a medley of fruit acids including glycolic acid from pineapple, lactic acid from passion fruit, citrus acid from lemon and tartaric acid from grape

Are these acids OK as in effective if from plants as opposed to ??? actually don't know how the other brands source their acids, still learning - spent loads of time on CH's You Tube channel this weekend

I take it one would use this or Pixi in place of the FAB or Nip pads that seem to crop up in a lots of routines?

AS REN Clarimatte changed their ingredients for this to a pineapple acid CH no longer has this in her top 10 if that helps?

I have the Clarins one and the REN one. My face tingles more using the Clarins one but I actually prefer the REN one.

Love Liquid Gold- bought an alpha-h kit that has Liquid Gold, Micro Cleanse exfoliator and a 50spf moisturiser from QVC that was good value. Use the Liquid Gold and exfoliator on alternate evenings and my skin has never been so good. Taken away loads of acne scarring, closes pores, increased radiance.

Used REN Clarimatte toner before that- it did close pores but also dried my skin out a lot, so definitely prefer LG.
