I'm sure this has been done to death, so I'm sorry! I'm just trying out the " cooking oil in hair" trick as my hair has decided to turn into straw overnight, really hope it works!

So this made me wonder, does any one use other cheap, homemade " remedies"- for skin, hair, anything really!

I make a face scrub from honey and a bit of sugar.
Or just honey on it's own for a face mask. Both simple and cheap.

Coconut oil is another great natural hair conditioner- leave on overnight and wash out in the morning.

I make my own deodorant balm, also with a coconut oil base, and essential oils, organic starch and sodium bicarbonate.

I also make a deodorising body spritz, with rubbing alcohol, essential oils and sodium bicarb again - smells lovely.

I'm thinking of starting a small business, making affordable toiletries that only contain few, 100% natural ingredients. Probably just a pipe dream though Sad

Seconding aspirin face mask.

Just keep your mouth tightly shut when washing it off.

Also bicarbonate is a fabulous body scrub. Never been so silky smooth. I whack some in my palm, add soap, and wash/scrub at the same time.

Ok how many aspirins and will it be absorbed by your body? What does it do as my skin is looking a bit dull.

I made a salt body scrub.

I put salt into a moisturiser I didn't want anymore. Mixed with a bit of water whilst standing in the shower. It worked quite well and was cheap.

I've mixed salt or sugar with olive oil previously. I remember it left the shower floor incredibly slippy. Danger zone slippy. So, never again!

Will egg on hair make it smell eggy? What does it do CheeseBored?

Oil pulling with coconut oil for mouth hygiene and teeth whitening.

Oil cleansing method for removing make up at night and cleaning the face.

Tea tree oil on your toothpaste for antibacterial action.

Ms

Aspirin is an exfoliant, it contains... that acid that begins with S that is in Clinique TurnAround cream.

Can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Anyway, I haven't had to buy any more turnaround cream since discovering the aspirin trick. Wet some. Crush them up.bPat all over face. Leave to dry. How long depends on how quickly you get bored. (me-three minutes tops). Rinse gently, With MOUTH SHUT !

I did it twice a week for a week or three, really saw a diff. and then weekly.

I am a bit obsessed with Coconut oil!!

I'm using it as a face & body moisturiser, eye make up remover. I've been applying to the ends of my hair every other night before bed.

I've been really pleasantly surprised especially on my face. Great for around the eyes Wink

Coconut oil for all of the above.
Handful of sugar in the shower as an exfoliator. Wont sting broken skin like salt does.
Honey face mask.

Also love coconut oil!

Can I ask, what does the asprin do? I've heard about adding zinc tablets in a mask to give a nice glow. Is that was the asprin is supposed to do?

All these sound great, will have to get some coconut oil! Where's the best place to buy? Are some brands better than others?

My guess is aspirin is an anti inflammatory, so might have an effect that way? Not sure though, just a wild guess! And honey has anti bacterial properties:)

I've been using honey and coconut oil as a seborrheic dermatitis treatment and it seems to be working. That aside, the honey as a mask is lovely - you need cold-pressed to preserve the enzymes or something. I managed to get hold of a cold-pressed manuka and it seems to be clearing the rash up a treat. The coconut oil fights the fungus as well.
I use a few drops of argan oil on my hair after washing.

I get my coconut oil for cooking from an Asian supermarket. Have only ever used it for cooking so far. It says 100% pure oil on the side.
I'm sure it's available elsewhere, but I haven't looked.

I read recently that Peter Andre uses coconut oil for his skin as well as cooking.
I'm going to try it on my hands later - they are dry and rough.

Yeah coconut oil is fabulous, inside and out! I get the Fushi organic raw one, the quality definitely makes a difference. It also comes in a glass jar which I like

Corn starch used as a dry shampoo.

Only works for blonde and gray hair, but dry shampoos are often made of rice starch with a little conditioner and perfume thrown in.
