Help me find different ways of putting my hair up - I can't wear it down at work.

My hair is long, well, not super-long - I'm letting it grow for another year, is like it to come down to my bra strap. Just to see if I like it :)

It's maybe to the tops of my shoulder blades, but I can't wear it down at work, because it falls in my face.

I need ideas for what to do with it. I'm tired of pony tails, or doubled-over pony tails fluffed out into a half-assed bun (however, that's my favourite, until I get ponytail headaches), or twisting it on the back of my head and clipping it... what else can I do?

I have one of those - maybe I'm doing it wrong but it doesn't look all that good. It always looks exactly as if I've wrapped my hair around a doughnut and pinned it to the back of my head.

Jackmania if you backcomb the ponytail and add hairspray before putting it into the donut/ sock it will give it a baggier/ messier look, iyswim?

Side bun?

I use a mini doughnut for mine and I love it. I have a side fringe and the bun goes on the same side as the fringe.

Sweep your hair into a ponytail under your ear, keeping the hair over the ear on the bun side, not behind the ear. Put the mini doughnut on, arrange hair over doughnut and secure with elastic. Using bun pins, pin the ends so they aren't flapping about. Spray with hairspray and you're done

You could try different plaits if that's allowed? My daughter likes the katniss everdeen (hunger games) style one but I'm all fingers & thumbs at doing it. YouTube is your friend!

I can weary hair any way I want (am self-employed) but am bending and leaning over people all day long so don't wNt my hair falling in my face.

Now - recommendations for conditioner please :( - we've been having the nastiest cold damp weather and my hide is so dry [aaaargh].

I've lookes at TheSmallThings before and her tutorials are great, but they all seem to involve that powder stuff? Is that necessary? And backcombing?

Re conditioner: I have not been using any conditioner on my really rather very frizzy hair since I started using l'Oreal's oil - some ponce name: 'extraordinary' oil or summat? Bought it 18 months ago for a tenner, still half-full and I really have not had problem with frizz. Oh, and I use henna to colour my hair, that's been amazing for condition tbh.

Topsy turvy ponytails are good.

You can do your double ponytail/half arsed bun and then topsy turvy that (does that make sense?) to make a smart updo. My hair is a bit long for it now, it makes it stick out too much, but it looks good and is v secure.

You need this Paul Mitchell conditioning treatment. It isn't cheap, but not super expensive, and lasts for ages.

The first time I used it someone asked if I had been to the hairdressers for a blow dry because my hair looked so shiny and healthy.

Re: Kate whoever being a Christian, is that Christian as opposed to Buddhist or Jewish or whatever? Or Christian as in Christian, like with a double capital C, like the born-again kind?
Live and let live, and all that, but that kind can be... well, I don't want to be unkind. There are a lot of them around where I live. They can be a bit much, sometimes. One of them told me once, in my office, that I should stop listening to "that godless garbage" (my lovely mellow yoga music, which, hilariously enough, is in part Sanskrit chants to Hindu deities... so the very opposite of godless - just not this man's god, I guess) and listen to something worthwhile, like Christian rock.

Jacks, no, no oilyness. I still only was my hair every 3rd or so because it looks like straw otherwise . My hair is not in the least curly, it's at best wavey and v frizzy.

Oh, and Kate is Christian. Just to add, I have nothing at all against people of any faith; my last post was a reaction to the fact that she writes on her 'About' page: "First and foremost, I am a Christian".

Neither have I got anything against any religion - but some are more in-your-face than others.

I found a Paul Mitchell conditioner today, will see how that works - but I'm definitely buying the Super String, too.
