Red carpet dress needed

I know there are a few threads at the moment about nice dresses but i have to find something quite specific...

I have been invited to a wedding this summer that is black tie. The invite has a paragraph of instructions about dress code (!) that says it has to be all out glamour and "nothing is over the top".

I am finding it really hard to find something. Its a wedding so no white or black, which rules out a lot. I can't go too sexy as it's in a church and I would be mortified if anyone thought I was doing that awful "guest secretly hoping to upstage the bride" thing. but I don't really want to spend a lot of money on a dress that is boring or makes me look like a bridesmaid. The bride is expecting floor length red carpet gown rather than nice cocktail dress.

I am late 20's, 5"10, size 12, deep autumn. I have a top budget of £200 but anything less would be a relief.

Have been looking for weeks and so throwing myself on the mercy of the S and B experts.

Hi Cjo1

Don't know my colours - what suits an autumn?

Spotted this full length Ghost dress at TK Maxx:

Any good?

Autumn colours-scarlet, pink, olive green, royal blue, black are the main ones. I have dark hair and eyes but pale as death skin that make up companies like to call porcelain.

MrsLettuce-wow those are lovely. They would be perfect but it takes 8-10 weeks and the wedding is in 6. but kicking myself that i didnt ask on here sooner because some of those are perfect.

WeAreSix-like that as well but they only have a 14. Also do you think its ok to wear scarlett at a wedding? I saw wedding photos where a guest had done that and it was really eye catching. Every photo I looked at her before the bride. But then she did say we couldn't be over the top...

Terri-its nice but silver washes me out. also think it might be a bit simple for this one.

Thanks for the suggestions

If nothing is over the top then scarlet is surely permitted? Likewise black, I would have thought?

yy, to what tribpot says about scarlet and black

I think the scarlet dress is uber-glam, and frankly if the bride can't keep up she shouldn't have chosen such a competitive theme Grin

this?
wow. Is she sure nothing is over the top?

Sexy Her do fab dresses. Ignore the name, I know it is shit, but the quality of the dresses for the money is great. DH is in the RAF and I nearly always get my dresses from there for balls. I am a 10, but have 34D boobs and have to buy a 12, but they are really helpful and are at the end of a phone based in the UK. The delivery is really quick and they take returns.

I've got this one from a couple of years ago, it is beautiful one, the colour is really vivid and I got loads of compliments. They had a matching wrap too.

How about vintage style wiggle dress?

Or sweetheart neckline in teal?

Or the same in red?

With a crinoline petticoat and elegant heels/clutch bag/hairdo?

Also - black tie doesn't require full length, only white tie does.

What about hiring something from girl meets dress?
