I want a nude(ish) lipstick that isn't a flat colour but has a bit of an iridescent(?) sheen but isn't too brown iyswim?
I've been watching the RHOBH and have been inspired by their lip shades...
LOL thanks Havingkittens
Try MAC's Pretty Please lipstick over a beige lip pencil such as Subculture. Or if you want more glossy, try with Oyster Girl lipgloss on top. (other brands are available
) - In case you're wondering, I worked for MAC years ago so am really familiar with their colours (and own most of them!)
I can't spend my points online
but thank you
The colour I had in mind was a grey-beige with a pink sheen(?) - I saw something similar today in a gloss but I think it was too pale - sounds weird I know!
I have now fallen in love with this site and am after new eyeshadows!
Nope, no sephora here.
Oh yes, that looks lovely! Nothing like the yukky beige shades.
I see it's in stock at debanhams on line...
i wear nude lip pencil with either gloss or lip balm on. Depends on how 'heavy; i want the look, sometimes I put the gloss or balm on 'before' the pencil.
No.7 range is reasonable enough and then I use a variety of gloss - clinique clear, Chanel Illumuniere, (sp), Motherplucker by soap and glory or simple vasolene aloe vera lip balm.
My poor lips are so sore
I have literally tried almost every lipstick in Debenhams today! I have learnt that brown is no good for me and anything too pale looks crap as I apparently have quite dark lips!
Anyway I chose Mac peach blossom. It is much less orange than in those pics more pink... So I walked around wearing it for a bit then tried a few Dior ones and came back with a Dior one on my hand to see if Mac had one similar and it was the same as the peach blossom only more shimmer... But they didn't have it in stock
So I'm sending DP in to get it for my birthday next week and if they still haven't got it I'll get the Dior!
I then went to Superdrug to see what MUA had and I got two MUA Lipsticks shade 3 (fushia-ish) and 7 (mid pink?) and a Collection one called Satin Bow which is almost the same as the Mac one but more creamy and no shimmer.
No luck with the eyeshadow and I looked everywhere
they were too dark. Will try to upload a pic of the colour I'm after.
marlene are you in a country where they have sephora?
YEah, that;s a really nice one. I like the Mac Paint Pot in Groundwork too.
Thou? Though!
MAC Satin Taupe is lovely. A medium shade thou rather than pale but you can wear it more sheer if you use a longer haired brush.
I think I meant taupe rather than pewter
a pale shimmery one
Urban Decay S&M is a true pewter, looks like well, pewter.
Estee Lauder Cyber Silver
Mac Print or a wee bit lighter is Swell Baby
Ooh, an interesting...bordering on obsessive hunt for my perfect nude has been re-fuelled.
I wear rose-petal by BB and love Clinique Sweet Honey and Laura Mercier Baby Lips.Mac Twig and Cosmos are good too but I think only the BB has iridescence. All are quite pinky though rather than browny nude.
Thanks Havingkittens. I've got one from virgin vie in a set of 4 thats running out and I'm desperate to replace it!
Auntiemaggie - Lancome have a nice dark pewter eyeshadow. Not tried it yet, but may get it to try. I have Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre in Eptant which is much less greenish, and more pewter than it looks. Quite sparkly though. Neither very cheap though, unfortunately. L'Oreal look to have some good metallics but I've not tried them.
I have the type of colouring that needs colour on the lips and my favourite every day lipstick is bobbi brown creamy lip colour in Rose Petal covered with MAC Ample Pink as mentioned b a previous poster.
You need nice white teeth to carry off nude lippy well :-)
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream lipstick is my fave - a variety of colours but all go on semi-sheer. But Google it for prices - it seems to vary wildly.
I may indulge in a more expensive nude as I'm going to wear it more often/daily and I have 10 quids worth of beauty rewards for debenhams.
L'Oreal Rouge Caresse has great bright fuchsia - it's not matte though, it feels very much like Dior Addict lipstick.
A nude for dark skin ( I am Indian) in case there is anyone reading this of a darker hue is Photo by MAC. I like to make up my eyes ( I channel Cleopatra
) so like a nude lip.
I have some pix if anyone is interested. I like how the colour enhances the shape of my lips.
Well I've just 'tested' all my lipsticks on my hand... I don't need any pinks (except perhaps a fushia
)
I definitely haven't got a pale nude but think the coral I was thinking of is similar to the orange/red I already have...
Now to find a pewter eyeshadow...
Sorry, was so busy ranting that I forgot to thank you for the excellent tip about the Mac strength colours - I keep clicking on party parrot swatches and cursing that it's discontinued. Tother pink is interesting too. Will definitely be off to check em out when they're rereleased.
yy that's an important point! Even if the colour calibration was the same on all computers and we all had exactly the same skin and lip colours the lighting that's used to take the photos has such a large influence how a colour looks that you still couldn't get an accurate idea of the exact shade.
Still, they're nice to look at an give a good idea of the most significant differences between shades.
I ordered ruby woo without seeing it in the flesh but it's one of the most reviewed and swatched colours there are. Is also almost universally flattering, but even so it was a risk.
