Ok, I'm biased, but I don't think they're ugly. In my opinion, they're blissfully comfortable and a simple, classic style.

They look much nicer than the usual toe-post fitflops and the Slides are on sale at the moment at Sweaty Betty and also Cloggs online.

I have to say I had my doubts and now confirmed.
Fruit, thank you for that link as I found a floral pair which looked very nice on a (slim) woman at the gym which was what I wanted originally but oddly not on Fitflops site.

They are flip flops with a slight platform, I like them and have two sparkly pairs. People get very frothy about how much they dislike them but I couldn't care any less!

I have the Walkstar slide in tan - I can't cope with toe posts at all. They are comfortable and. I think, under-stated rather than frumpy. They aren't the most delicate footwear you can get but there's very often a trade-off between comfort and delicacy! Quite fancy a bronze or pewter Ciela slide too, for a sparklier look, if they are reduced further.

I'm also into the ones with a backstrap for really serious walking - have just got the Via Bar sandal in black nubuck and, with the metal fastenings, it looks good, I think, for a comfortable shoe:

Also fancy the Arena in tan,

but only if it goes into a sale as I have as many Fitflops as I need, or at least can afford.

What's the sizing like on these? I am usually a 6.5 or a 40 but that's not an offered size. Do I go up to a 41 or down to a 39? Any ideas

I have Lolla in a lovely bright orangey colour. I have had trouble with my feet this year ( achilles tendons have been uncomfortable) and I bought these as an insurance I'd have something presentable and comfortable to wear on holiday. They are a bit chunky for my taste but do look OK. Now I've lost a few pounds feet are happier and I'll get another pair of more delicate sandals too.

I got the Lolla slides in blue suede a couple of weeks ago after a thread on here. I needed something for around the house and garden as I have arthritis and my feet were throbbing after a day gardening in my old Birkis. They are really fab.
MIL has arthritis in her toes and she loves them too.
Don't think they are smart enough for work though - I wear Fly London shoes, mostly wedges and they are comfy too.

Moondog - I was just going to post the same question! I love wearing fitlops - but am not sure if they are they are a fashion faux-pas. I'm not the trendiest gal out there but I don't want to dress like a granny just yet.

moonblushtomato - that's terrible Muriel! But kind of true...and I see a lot of grannies wearing them. I'm slim, young(ish) and love wearing my pewter sequinned ones with shorts but have started feeling slight uneasy that they're a bit fuddy-duddy.

I don't care about the supposed health benefits, they are just so comfy. I can't stand regular flipflops as they are too flat.

They are most definitely a fashion crime sorry !

Report
polyhymnia · 22/06/2012 21:16

Crime or not, they're everywhere in our corner of leafy suburban SW London, on everyone (female) from 30 up, and on both slim and non-slim.

I really dont like them - however, not sure I have the right to comment as I love Birkenstocks!
