What's the best mascara you've ever used?

Have tried a few- Max Factor, Maybelline, No 7 etc but never found one I massively rate.

They all make the same claims- bigger, thicker, longer, false eyelash effect etc, but do any of them actually deliver?

I use L'oreal Longitude. I have quite long lashes anyway but it makes them look huge with a few applications.

I'm quite liking Blinc at the moment.

Max Factor Masterpiece for me... But mascara recommendations are always dodgy because people have such different eyelashes. Mine are short but dense so everything but Masterpiece clumps on me.

Well -based on a review I decided to try "benefit theyre real", top selling mascara apparently. I went to benefit counter and had a try but I hated the clumpy look it was not natural IMO.
The benefit girl quietly told me about maybelline one by one which I have since bought and love as it is more natural for me. It is an individual thing HTH

Christian Dior 'Diorshow'.

A friend bought me the Bare Minerals one for Christmas and I don't like it - possibly because it's a weird rubber brush and I just can't get on with it at all.

Just bought Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme and it's ok - but still prefer Diorshow. Will get another tube next time there's a gift time on.

My favourite is Mally volumising mascara here. It gives me a jet black, thick, false lash effect. It is pretty expensive (but not ysl expensive) but I love it. You can only buy it from qvc or maybe ebay/amazon/usa which is a pain. However, it is still by far the best I have used - nothing comes close. Most eye make up removers don't take it off - not even baby oil - but the new elemis cleanser gets it off in a jiffy. I use the no7 lash adjust if I want a less 'wow' look but it doesn't really compare.

Modest budget I would go for Max Factor Masterpiece or good old 2000 Calorie.

Big budget, I like Lancome - Hypnose I think, or Extencils or something like that.

I am currently on no budget so I am using a L'oreal double ended one that was a present and I don't like it , 2 layers is a PITA and its rather clumpy.

Another vote for YSL, I save up my Boots points for SHOCKING. It really does look like longer lashes and stays on all day

Ooh I want to know this too. I can never keep mascara actually on my lashes - it always ends up scattered over my lower lids within an hour or so :(

Another vote for lancome hypnose. I use the waterproof version as very watery eyes. It never budges

And now very interested in the Mally one too, as my main want is to find one that doesn't fucking smudge

The prices!

OK, how much do people spend on a mascara?

Laura Mercier is current favourite. I like a more natural effect - or at least no clumps. Had high hopes for the Soap & Glory one but found that a bit clumpy.

Lancome hypnose here too Smile

Another vote for Diorshow but have to say MAC Opulash is almost as good and 40% cheaper!

I'll check whether my MAC one is Opulash. Whatever it is, it's much better than all the other millions of masacaras I've ever tried.

maybelline lash stylist, it is truly the best one I have ever used. I order it online now as I can't get it locally, I just don't want any other mascara

Sockspence · 22/02/2012 22:35

I strongly believe that mascaras are much of a muchness and it's all in the application.
