Try to let your brows grow out for a good 3 or 4 weeks before getting them done - you will just waste money otherwise. They will teach you how to fill them in with powder and pencil - it will be worth the £25 just for that advice alone if you have overplucked badly.

I use the HD palette and I think it is fantastic. I get my brows done at shavata every 6 months as I can just maintain the shape myself.

Go for it but grow them out as much as poss beforehand to get the most out of it.

I asked the ( excellent ) woman who does my brows about the whole HD thing ( v posh salon in Manchester ) she told me that she shouldn't really say it but it's a waste of money, that you might as well just pay for bog standard threading + tint.

What is it?

hi mrsmartin thanks for your post

I've already let them grow for about the last four weeks, I usually do anyway as they are very fair and unfortunately don't grow that quick anyway so it doesn't usually look too bad by now. I would usually be thinking about getting them threaded by now but this time think I will continue to grow them and book an appointment now for say three/four weeks time (can I last that long?!) so even if they look really unruly I will at least have a date to get them sorted and just grin and bear it

funny you should mention shavata, I've also just been looking at that website and the local salons that do this - is there a reason why I should get them done at HD as opposed to shavata, is it just the 'lesson' they give you at HD?

the only downside in all this is that I may be allergic to eyebrow tint as I am allergic to hair dye/tint (or was last time I checked, the lady at the threading counter was going to tint them in 2008 but I asked her to do a patch test first, lucky I bloody did as I was!). I have quite a bad allergy too, behind my ear was weeping for weeks. Wonder if they use a different sort of dye at HD/shavata

I go to Shavata because when I started getting my brows done HD wasn't around - I still go to them because I feel confident about them. I therefore haven't had the HD service but most people on MN have been happy with them. Any beauty therapist should be happy to show you how to fill them in though...if you are anywhere near a shavata then I would go to them every time. They dont just thread...When I get mine done they are threaded, waxed, attacked with a razor blade and then filled in for me.

Also, it is really pricey but I have had great results with revitabrow - it has stimulated the growth of my brows as years of sleeping on my left had pretty much erased the tail of my left eyebrow!!

I actually already look like that so can't be arsed

I get stopped in tesco by crazy women (probably fellow MN's hehe) asking me where I get my brows done and what I use to colour them...I get at least one compliment a week.

My top tip is to use hair serum to keep them in place - looks glossy but not high shine and keeps them in good condition too Smile

ObviouslyNot · 18/02/2012 23:11

that's exactly what has happened to my left brow mrsmartin and I sleep on my lefT!

ouch revitabrow is pricey! just looking now

hmm ok well that has confused me a bit but I think I'm leaning more towards going to Shavata only because I worry that the HD brows will look very unnatural, my eyebrows are very fair and sparse so I just worry it would look silly also at least with shavata I could just get the brows shaped if I am allergic to the dye

I'm near London so could get it done by the lady herself, wonder if that is worth the extra cost?

well some of us underlings are not so polished msarsebiscuit..

OK - serum - what do you use mrsmartin

I wish I could get stopped by people for my brows

did you used to have sparse eyebrows too?

When I was about 14 I was a little over-zealous with the tweezers and for some reason I had always had a gap in my right brow. I've posted it in another thread but I use a satin pillowcase now to a. stop it pulling my eyebrows out and b. minimise my chances of getting wrinkles early on in life. The revitabrow is pricey - I'm hopeing I'll only ever need this one tube and that now they have come through and filled the gap and tail they will continue to grow there. I got mine in a value pack from qvc on easypay (£60 for the revitabrow, revitalash and lash primer on 3 payments of £20) - If I see it come up again I will post it in a thread on S&B. The revitalash is also brill - I have full on hollywood lashes now.

I use any hair serum going - currently a tressemme one. Have also been known to use vaseline and even cherry lip balm - whatever is to hand really!! Grin

PS I dont look too far off mrs HD - just better looking brows and less like a something from the twilight saga hehe

Shavata is a lovely lady - I haven't had her do my brows but I met her at a lunch and she is so softly spoken and definately knows her stuff - is it alot more for her to do it?

not really - eyebrow Shape £17 / with Shavata £35
eyebrow Tint £13 / with Shavata £20

i figure if she does it properly first time I could maintain less frequently or without shavata iygwim

my goodness what next mrsmartin now I have to buy a silk pillow case too ? you have cost me an awful lot of money this evening Grin

but they qvc thingy sounds good - will look out for your post on S&B (what is lash primer?)

to be honest I ebayed the primer (got a tenner so not bad going) but it is one of those instant lash extension mascaras you put on before you put your mascara on - remember the double ended ones from a couple of years ago with a white end? It had no treatment element to it so I wasn't interested.

satin pillowcase - I got a pair for £4 from primark.

Id probably pay that simply to have a chat with her, she is lovely (prob does it in about 3mins flat though!!!). I only get mine one every 6 months and I find it really easy to maintain myself - I just pluck after I have cleansed but before I tone (I find it is easier then because the pores are open and the hairs are squeaky clean).

Thanks for all your help the other night mrsmartin you certainly know your stuff

I popped into primark the other day but couldn't find any satin pillowcases. Will keep looking though

£10 is a good price for your mascara primer-I do know what you mean, I used to use the bourjois one a while back and loved it, really got on with it. Unsure if they sell it now. I only stopped because of the price

I spoke to my sis about going to see shavata-she works for benefit-and she said why do you specifically need to see her. I didn't have an answer really! I think my silly brain thinks more money=better eyebrows!

I think she personally trains her employees so I doubt you would need to see her but she is a sweetheart!!

I think I would still go to her...I'm a sucker for being able to say 'oh yes, shavata did them - don't they look great'. hehe- so sad Blush

Just read her bio IM SOLD!!!!

Think I may pop into the salon-this week if I can-to have a patch test and to also ask how long I should leave brow growth for. I'm guessing about four weeks, I've already grown for about 4 weeks so far

I saw shavata today!!!
Phones up the salon on the off chance as it says on the website she works every other Thursday. Explained and they said I could come in today for a free consultation!

So shavata took me to the room and I could see her
Looking at my eyebrows a lot!! Surprisingly she did actually shape
My eueybrows today (thought she would say wait for
More regrowth). She waxed, threaded and tweezers my brows. She also done a patch test behind my ear and so far-fingers crossed-no reaction just yet

She gave me a few good tips, she said I was drawing my eyebrows too long and round and also filled in my brows with a pencil (her own brand which I bought! -£8.50)

We also discussed semi-permanent tattooing on the future if I am not happy with regrowth in the long term and also because you would not get an allergic reaction to this

My eyebrows look GREAT! It actually seems
as though there is more hair there. I have an appointment for
Four weeks time. Well chuffed I went to see her! Although it did cost £43.50 all in!!!

Ahhh I'm so happy for you Obviously!!! She is an actual genius with brows and an absolute sweetheart.(I've used her pencils before and they last ages so not a bad price really). Chuffed for you Grin

ObviouslyNot · 24/02/2012 13:33

yes I'm chuffed - sis reckons they look 100% better already. Have pencilled them in this morning, admittedly they don't look as good as they did yesterday but I didn't expect them to!

On the downside my test patch is itchy red and irritable-gutted. I guess I could look at semi-permanent but that will be £££ no doubt

Obviously where did you go to actually get the woman herself to do your eyebrows?
