Mascara - do I need to buy the 'expensive' stuff?

If not, can anyone recommend a seriously good one for under £10? I usually use Clinique or Laura Mercier but cannot justify spending £17 this month after a particularly expensive Christmas. Can anyone recommend a REALLY good, 'cheap' one - that works!?

TIA

The best mascara ever IMO is max factor masterpiece (about £8-9). But the thing with mascara is you need to find the one that suits you... I have short eyelashes but lots of them and the wand on masterpiece is perfect for me (it has a plasticy brush wand) as it separates and slightly lengthens without clogging.

Bourjois mascara's are very good. Can't think of the name of the one I use, but it's in a white tube (it's the sensitive version ). It's £6.99 or £7.99 and it's just as good as any high end mascara I've tried, and a lot better than some.

I compleatly agree with Maxfactor! Ive tried and liked every one! And they are all reasonably priced, I think the most expensive is £12.99!

I am convinced that mascara is only as good as your application technique. All mascara looked shit on me, even when I'd spent many bucks on it. Someone then taught me the correct way to apply it and my Boots Natural Collection £1.99 jobby looks great.

Max Factor or L'oreal.

Thanks everyone - think I'll get a Max Factor one next then.
