How to put hair up?

Hi, I have recently started going to the gym before work, so am washing my hair every day. I usually have to straighten my hair, but can't do this every day. So I am looking for instructions for putting my hair up for work. Whenever I put my hair up, I just scrape it back in a 'Croydon facelift' kind of way, which looks terrible.

If somebody could give me step by step instructions and maybe some links to nice 'up' hair, I would be really grateful.

Thanks Smile

Bumping this - never quite managed to turn my thin, rats tail of a pony into a gorgeous up do (those 19 year olds on you tube demonstrating messy buns all have gorgeous thick locks. Grrrr)

Yep, me too, formerdiva. The sock bun gave me some ideas of what to do with my fringe, but my hair is just too thin to cover the socks.

One thing that does look good for my sorry excuse of a bun is the babyliss fake messy buns. It's essentially a sort of scrunchie with quite realistic hair on it that you wrap round your own bun. I've only worn it once and it looked good, but I haven't yet dare wear it it for work in case it falls out half way through a meeting (not the kind of diva look I struggle to regain!). Will try butchering one of the 2yo's socks this afternoon to see if a weeny sock bun will be more effective...

I use one of these for a very quick, fairly casual up-do, in exactly the sort of situation you describe, or just for windy days, hot days etc. Just pull all the hair to the middle of the back of your head, twist it upwards and put the clip over the twist. You can get smaller ones than this if your hair is fine.
