changing my hair colour - what do i ask for

My hair has ended up frizzy and blond with permanently dark roots. I started with a few highlights and over the past few years got more until I am having a full head every 8 to 10 weeks.
I have a long, layered cut and a grey stripe just on my hairline.
I would really like to have a more natural colour (mid brown) and requires a lot less upkeep, but I dont really know what to ask for.
My hairdresser is great, but said to send some pictures and I dont know what I want.
I think I want more reddish brown all over, with maybe a few foils in the top. But I dont want it to look to dull and flat or go really black.

What shoudl I ask her for? can anyone recomend any website where I could find some good pictures?

Change your hairdresser to someone who can give you proper hair colouring advice.

If I said I want a more natural colour that requires a lot less up keep to my hairdresser, I'd expect her to come up with suggestions and have a discussion about my options. Equally If I had as much damage to my hair as you've described, I would expect my hairdresser to have said something before now, about the condition of my hair and what to do about it.

Sorry, just realised my last post sounded very very abrupt.

Really though, consider changing your hairdresser. May be its just me, but I want my hairdresser to be the expert. Yes I have an opinion about the way I'd like my hair to look, but I think a hairdresser gets paid to provide a service, not just blindly do what a customer says.

agree with mist, my highlights ruined my hair and in the end i just bunged on some nice n easy ash brown and it look so much better

i also got the damaged hair cut off, took about five inches off all in all [sock]

worth it though as it's strong again and cheap to maintain

I know what you mean.. I always like this hairdresser because she was aways happy to do my hair really light blond. Its realy not doing me any favours any more though. Its certainly time for a change and something a bit more flattering - will investigate. Thanks
ghost - do you have any grey hair? the last time I coloured my hair at home, it really seemed to grab the black and I ended up having to have that bit cut off.

the semi-perm colour i used doesn't seem to colour the grey that much but as i only have a little i'm not too worried yet!
