Long Hair Up Do's

Hi - I'm off to a very big ball in July.

have got a lot of dress options but they are mainly A-line, not puffy, but more gown, than straight. I'll find an example in a minute.

basically, I have booked to have an up do on the morning but can't decide on what style.

I have mousy blond hair which is long and has a natural wave.
My face is quite long with a straight nose and I'm a size 14/16 (to give an idea of how balanced I will look/not look!)

Which of these styles do you like? this is my fave so far but with pretty pearls dotted around the bun bit rather than flowers.

The dress will likely be a midnight/dark blue taffetta or an irridescent purple/mauve boned.

I'll find the other pics and post in a mo.

I guess the dress is most like the bottom one in this link but actually not as out-y and not the same colour - but style, yes.

think the side bun one looks nice - you are on the right track with Eva she would wear a dress like that - and a side puffy bun etc! Some of them are a bit too bridal - sorry but I have seen some of the pics when I was planning my wedding hair 2008!

But it's a very formal ball so want to make it look as though I've made an effort and want some structure to my hair so I'm not running my hands through it all night (which I will do if it's not up)

So which do you prefer out of those then omydarlin? The Eva one?

I like the Eva Longoria one and the black and white messy bun pic. Bridal style hair at balls can look little girly rather than fab, in my experience, and sometimes a bit silly, no matter how formal the ball. Lots of up dos on the web are aimed at brides, but I think it's probably better to check out red carpet photos. The buns would look great with that style of dress.

The Eva one, the Sarah-Michelle Gellar one and the black/white messy bun are the only ones I would consider.

The others are very dated imo particularly the 'formal sleek' one which screams American Prom circa 1993. Any do with pearls/jewels randomly scattered in it is very old fashioned.

Jessica Alba has had lots of pretty updos.

right - red carpet, not bridal then. Will ditch the sparkly bits dotted through as well.

Glad I asked - right will go along the lines of one of the Kessica Alba ones - all very soft and pretty.

sorry - confused you - both bun pictures the black and white one and the one above are lovely and what Eva would wear with the type of dress (which you showed) us - infact Jessica Alba and Eva both wear their hairs in similar ways so you would be on to a winner!!

Don't forget to post pics of your dress sound lovely!
