Defecting from Gloss to Lipstick! Need Guidance

I adore lip glosses but would like something with a bit more staying power.
Need some recommendations for lovely lipsticks.
Also colour. I have dark brown hair, medium colour skin tone, blue eyes. I usually go for pinky glosses. What might suit me?
I often buy from No7 but would be willing to push the boat out just this once!

I like those sheer glossy lipsticks. Lots of places do them, Benefit, MAC, Body Shop. I have one my L'Oreal thats nice, its in a square amber-coloured bullet. I think the 17 range in Boots do some, they are in a metallic turquoise tube.

These kinds of lipsticks are definately not long-lasting though, but easy to reapply (and your hair doesn't stick to them!) Go to boots and have a mooch!

If you prefer HE, Chanel or Beaute do lipsticks in a gloss-type tube, these are very pigmented and not sticky.

How about a stain, with your gloss on top+ Benefit do one.

It's horribly expensive but I really love Chanel Rouge Coco - staying power is fantastic but it feels very light. I also like pinks, and I love Byzantin (deep reddish berry/pink that you can apply in quite a subtle stain) and Rivoli (pinky red, again you can apply it quite lightly or as a more serious red lip).

The marketing spiel for the line is that they are lipsticks for the lipgloss generation - I can see why they claim that, because they are very light to wear - so perhaps they'd suit you. Not that I am a sucker for fancy marketing, oh no.

oh meant to add - I don't find them drying and they DO stay on!

I like Clinique Almost Lipsticks but they don't have the staying power you're probably looking for. They give sheer colour which is deeper and lasts longer than a gloss, and isn't sticky or wet-look.

Bobbi Brown does brilliant natural "your lips but better" lipsticks.

You need Coco Rouge by Chanel. It is marketed as the lipstick designed for gloss wearers.

I would recommend Bobbi Brown lipsticks, they are quite creamy and the colour is very dense so really lasts well. Plus their colours are completely failsafe, you really cant go wrong. They are more drying than a gloss for sure but I have tried millions of lippies and find if they feel too creamy going on they will have disappeared after an hour.

Colour wise I like Sandwash pink and Blondie pink

I havent tried the Chanel one but have certainly read lots of good things about it, its next on my list!

Another vote for Bobbi Brown.

Sandwash Pink and Brown are lovely and look quite different when on. I suggest using a liner and a lipbrush.

If you want extra staying power, do the following.

  • apply lippy as normal.
  • take a piece of loo roll and separate the layers
  • place one of the layers over your lips and dust loose powder over it (this sets the colour)
  • reapply liner and lipstick.

Love the sound of Chanel and Bobbi Brown. Have never bought HE stuff before so maybe I should give it a whirl! Hugebelly will try your top tip forthwith!

Blimey! The Chanel one at Boots costs £23...Lordy, I'm shocked! I usually pay about £9ish pounds for a gloss. Definitely one to hide from DH.

Revlon and Bourjois are also good and a lot less pricey. YSL lippy is lovely and has a gorgeous scent.
