I need shoes; neither stylish nor beautiful shoes, but comfortable & supportive shoes - can anyone help?

I think it's my arches

I need light weight, supportive, comfortable shoes, for indoors which I will wear about 10 hrs a day at work

I can't do mules or flipflops but can do a sling back

What can anyone suggest? (I don't want old lady shoes but I think I might need them)

Sounds like you need to possibly get some arch supports or orthotics to ensure that your foot is positioned corrected.

I don't know about support but would Dr Martin shoes be any good - they come in a massive variety of styles now.
My comfiest and most supportive "shoes" are my asics running trainers. They were properly fitted and support my feet all over. I can be on my feet for hours in them happily. They are not stylish but they are fantastic.
I went to a specialised running shop "Run 4 It" is our local one but there are loads of them.
Can you wear trainers to do what you will be doing.

Hello. I have been on a major mission to find supportive shoes, as my feet hurt too :( They also grew about 2 sizes larger during my pregnancy and were very very wide, and still are.

I have just ordered a pair of Alegria Feliz from heavenlysoles.co.uk, you can also get another style from [http://www.lovethoseshoes.com], I have received a pair of the Alegria Paloma Mary Jan'es from lovethoseshoes, but they will need to go back, they run 1 size to big. If you search on their website they do cater for foot problems. I know the Alegria are a tad pricy, but I am at my wits end, I honestly have tried every wide fitting shoe on in Britain and can't get anything that suits me :(

I have been wearing birkenstocks for the last year (even in the rain cold etc) as these were the only thing I could wear that supported my arches, and could do the width. HTH, but just realised you were looking for a sling back...............try lovethoseshoes

Try Rieker. I've found them in outlet places before now; they are German, very comfortable and often look good too!

I like those clarks, Ben - I'll go into a shop to try some on but I saw these which might be a good compromise between shoes & trainers (I tend not to wear trainers as I have contact allergies to rubber/plastics)

I had arches several years ago but my feet don't hurt enough to use them again yet & the shoes they fit in are quite heavy [wimp]

I think DM's would be heavy too

The fitflop shoes/boots help my friend who has plantar fasciitis massively. Don't necessarily have to be a mule/slip on. I would second getting orthotic inserts. The Scholl shops will advise on a pair, I bought some for about £25 there. They advise shoes with laces where you can tighten the mid section to support your inner arch are best, obviously not great in the summer!

I would second fitflops.They are so comfortable - i also used to wear orthotics.I have the super boots and the billows and have just orderd the amethyst superboots.Also skechers shape-ups are really comfortable,as are mbt's.Try on a few pairs and see which suits you!.

Ecco or Gabor shoes are fantastically lightweight and supportive, some of their styles are a bit grannyish but they have gotten much better of late and there are a few I def wouldnt mind wearing to work

Have you tried Josef Seibel shoes here? The link shows a rather unattractive clog but if you use the arrows underneath you can see their whole range.

I have a pair of MBT trainers for work and they are fabulous - 6hr shifts in hospital on my feet all the time. Before I got them I used to wear Crocs and got plantar fascitis quite badly. Now it's totally disappeared.
