The belted cardigan/dress look

I am keen on the belted cardigan/dress look but just can't seem to carry it off. I have a large variety of different length and texture cardigans and different belts but I either look fat (I'm not) or like I can't move my arms. Any tips other than giving up?

glad it's not just me - I tried it last week and I looked really frumpy. I was wondering whether the cardigan has to be a slim-fit straight style, which I don't have

Are you very slim Ruby? I'm tall and quite slim but have a big chest and look quite, ahem, buxom if the belt is too thick.

I am wearing that look now! Have black shift dress and charcoal cashmere long cardigan.

Hey Choo! How thin is your belt? Where are you wearing it - around your waist or lower down?

this beltIt is around my waist, but the cardigan isn't closed iyswim. Have left a panel down the middle.
I am at work and it looks suitably corporate Smile

I wear them like Choo with a long thin cardi worn open over a similar length dress and a skinny belt on my waist. Wearing the belt lower down looks awful on me (hourglass) and I can't pull it off on shorter cardis either as that makes me look fat.

I will try it tomorrow again. Grin at me looking corporate for the park! Thanks ladies.
