children's trousers with comfy soft waistbands

Dd2 has a chubby tummy and waistbands with buttons/poppers dig into her. Has anyone seen funky trousers or jeans with soft waistbands (like the Boden ones - have seen them but not so keen on the designs this year)? She's a size 3 or 4 yrs, btw.

Next denim culottes and jeans? (page 10 in the younger girls - nasty buttons can be replaced.)

My DD has some sailor style navy cords from GAP (last year though) that are great. This style is good rather than a button at the front - difficult to find however!

Next also do a "plus" range and I saw some fairly nice dark blue skinny jeans today.

Gap and John Lewis are OK, similar to Boden. My dd has no waist to speak of and buttons and gathered waists are a 'mare.

dd has some from Asda, but Next have heart kneepatches, boarders in three colours and ones with cats in their 'younger girls' bit
and two here and here for older girls

I posted on this a couple of weeks ago- same issue here. Best I found was Polarn O pyret. They do big wide elastic waist bands as well as adjustable waists and loose/ normal or slim fit jeans.

POP

Also my DD1 wears a lot of leggings w dress/ tunic tops as you can get leggings a size bigger but they don't look too long or drag on the floor.

Thanks for the ideas everyone :)
Will have a plough through.

The thing is that everywhere else she is quite petite and she has a tiny little bottom - it's just her belly that sticks out, partly due to low muscle tone (she has Down syndrome). So she doesn't really need 'plus' sizes, I don't think.

She does already wear tunics, leggings and loose dresses, just needs a couple of pairs of trousers for when it gets colder.

Keep the ideas coming if anyone else has any bright ideas :)

I have a DS (3.5yo) and tesco and asda always do lovely jeans/combats, etc with the stretchy fabric waistband, really easy for him to get up and down and they always fit brilliantly. I would assume they also do the same kind of thing for girls, but my DD is only 8 weeks old, so haven't looked at the girls stuff yet!

I always get DS's jeans/trousers there because I think they are cheap (about £7) and they always wash really well and last aaages - still look good, even when he has outgrown them. I htink the quality is good.

Have a look at the girls stuff there (especially tesco), they must do the equivalent. Good luck!!

Tesco definitely had nice cords with fabric waistbands last winter. DD had some dark pink and some purple ones. Washed well and cheap too! I'm nowhere near a Tesco now though so can't be certain they have them this year but I'd imagine they would or something very similar.

I've got some of the tesco ones which I was going to ebay. I think there are about 4 pairs, nice colours, cord, soft jersey waist Smile

I bought them for DD2 but she refuses to wear any trousers other than leggings...

More great ideas, thanks!

I like the look of the Tesco ones with butterflies (would appeal to her love of pink) and the Next ones you linked to, Morag - thanks!!

Lovingthesun - do you have photos of the cord trousers?

Good idea to look on ebay for previous Boden designs :)

I have a DD7 with same problem. I have just had success with Lands End leggings but bought in big size.
Have tried Boden Jeans with heart knees and stretchy waist but they pull down. Also tried similar cargo pants from Boden but too tight.
Used to have success with Mothercare stretchy bootleg type trousers - have you tried there.

Have you looked at the Jojomamanbebe stretchy stripe bootlegs?

I've got DD1 a couple of pairs of cords from Tesco (ordered online as never had right size in store). I also got jeans from Tesco and a pair from Sainsburys all with soft stretchy waist bands.

Would she wear dungarees?

nuru, yes I can take some. I've found up 1 x 2-3 & 2 x 3-4 from the dd2-to-grow-into pile. Will take photos tomorrow & post back here when done.

Looks like the supermarkets are the way to go then! Although I do like the jojmamanbebe bootlegs - she used to have some similar to that from Pumpkin Patch and they were fab.

Thanks lovingthesun, she'll need 3-4yrs.
