Primer - what am I doing wrong?

Hello.

I'm getting married on Monday so I bought some Boots No 7 primer to try. Lots of people have said how good primer is and I thought it would be a good way to make my make up last longer on my Wedding day.

I keep trying it but it makes it so that my foundation isn't blending in properly and it goes patchy and cakey in places. What am I doing wrong? And has anyone got any tips please?

To be honest it may just be the wrong one, or the wrong one for your skin.

If you have the time and money, you could try Smashbox or MAC primers which are supposed to be excellent But really at this stage I'd just go with your usual makeup that you know - you don't need the stress of dealing with new and untried makeup on your wedding day!

Hmm, I might just leave it on the day then! I'm pregnant aswell so my skin's all to pot I was hoping that it might make miracles happen and give me beautiful flawless skin! Never mind .

It is probably not compatible with your skin type rather than you doing something wrong.

If you have time then go to a Bobbi Brown counter over the weekend and get them to show you how to do your wedding make-up base.

I don't think I'll have time over the weekend as we're going away to get married. Ah well, never mind, I'll perhaps try a different one after!

From the sounds of it you need a really thorough exfoliate before you can put primer near your face. Primer basically smooths your skin. A bit like hair serum for faces. So if you have any dry or flaky skin it will just plaster it to your face and make your makeup sit weird.
Enjoy the wedding in your usual makeup and when you get the chance have a good go with an exfoliant x

Boots no7 primer. Did the same on my skin. No problems with any other primer.

I use beauty flash balm. I've tried the smashbox and laura mercier primers and though they are good I prefer it. You can order the smashbox primer from QVC and send it back if you don't like it. I think you have up to 30 days.

I've tried it again this morning and I'm not sure whether I've been putting too much on because I've used less this time and it seems ok! I daren't buy another as DP will go ape (spent a fortune in Boots yesterday!) I'll keep practicing with it until Monday and if it's still not right I'll just skip it on the day and try a new one another time.

I've used this in the past (on my wedding day too I think) and IIRC you should put your make up on straight away after applying the primer - don't give it any real time to 'set'

Also, I just used it around my T zone rather than over my whole face.

I agree with above to exfoliate then moisturise straight away. Once you are ready to do your make-up apply a little primer on t zone and little on tops of cheeks, when you apply it use a light touch (no massaging it in) then apply foundation straight after.
