Sorry if this is long and hard to understand but I'm a bit upset today.

DS1 is in reception and loves it but the teacher raised concerns that his social interactions were noticably less developed than his peer and so got an ed psych to assess him.

I got the report back this morning and they said his idiosyncrases were managable atm and they will review in summer term but I feel something isn't right.

He is obsessed with zebras and hunts anything to do with them out when he arrives at school but he can play without them.

He tiptoe walks and hates not having anything on his feet, also he doesn't like sitting on tarmac and he isn't keen on the school carpet as he thinks it's too dirty to sit on (although he may have a point !)He's never been keen on messy play he's too concerned with getting messy hands.

He is obsessed with the school computer but won't concentrate on other tasks very well

He shouts out at inapproprate times and needs forewarning of what is to happen next when at school

He doesn't semm to have proper conversation with friends at school but sometimes he gets fixated on one child and crowds them and is a bit intense with them but he can understand emotions

At the moment he has a thing about the dark and stands at the window watching the streetlights coming on

Just the slightest injury provokes an ott response were he will run around screaming and flapping his hands.

Every slight committed by another child is commented on by him

His longterm memory is excellent and yet if he asks a question he will keep asking even though I have told him the answer and he can tell me what the answer is

Some of the above may be typical 5yr old behaviour I know but something just doesn't feel right iykwim ?

So if you've read my epic any of you wise people do you think I have anything to worry about ? Thanks for reading

my daugher is 5 and has aspergers. Some of the things you mention do sound familiar. Certainly the repetitive question asking and maybe the obsession with zebras. Also the inappropriate behaviour (as teachers tend to call it) when they're very intense ewith other children. I would suggest that if you do have concerns to investigate further, see your GP or see if you can get a referral to a paeditrician. It really is better to find out earlier as you can really help get the support he needs.
