My Ds 2.11 has been copying shapes this week he has drawn a circle, a square, a rectangle and a triangle (that one was attempting to copy a cross). He is catching up in the areas where he was behind fine motor skills and gross motor skills. He is also getting very good at actions to nursery rhymes he can do head shoulders knees and toes, row row the boat, happy and you know it all which has come on recently. He is reading the bread tin as "B rr ee oo aa). He is sharing food that he likes and being sneaky- he was licking the wall and when I told him to stop he crouched down to where I couldn't see him and continued. Im so proud of his progress. His understanding has improved but it is still way behind and he has no speech (thank god for pecs). Its strange because I worry about how far behind he is and then he will make huge strides all at once. Of course not all his changes are positive but Im going to keep this a happy post.

That sounds fantastic staryeyed. My DS is 3.2 and cannot even begin to draw shapes or even recognise them. I have been trying to get him to copy movements in nursery rhymes and it is just not happening.

TinySocks- he has learned everything hand over hand- nursery rhymes and shapes. He has only just begun to imitate a bit and its not consistent. First I drew a line then hand over hand I showed him how to copy. then I reduced the prompting. Once he could do that we did circles, then he got he hang and has been copying rectangles and squares with no prompt. He cant draw them on demand as he doesn't have the understanding.

I think your DS's achievements are fantastic. You should be very proud and keep at it!! I think DS will struggle a lot with this type of activity, his motor skills are still not great. But we'll keep encouraging him! I know that one day he will do it.

Yes, he does sound very bright indeed at non-verbal skills stary.

TClanger - interesting - a point where our boys diverge - DS hasn't really needed to be shown things hand over hand, he has never had problems with imitating. Think my DS would have started drawing simple shapes at about 3.
