teaching parts of the body

DS2 can point to body parts on himself and we are about to start teaching him to identify them on others or on a picture. I'm looking for a teaching resource for this: my idea was a large picture of a person with removable velcro parts. I've got a puzzle, but it only has head, body, arms and legs - I'm looking for something that covers eyes, ears, mouth, hair, fingers, toes etc. Just having a large picture wouldn't work as well, as DS2 still doesn't point with great accuracy. It would be better if I could say
'give me arm' iyswim.

Has anyone seen anything like this in an SEN catalogue or elsewhere? Don't suggest making one - my drawing is crap .
Thanks all - have tried googling with no success.

No suggestions for actual resources, but can he (even vaguely) rub himself with a towel after a bath? Or even pat himself? We play with "dry your... " game with DS1 after a bath to keep him out of trouble while DS2 is dried and dressed and sometimes play the "pat your... " game when we're changing his nappy to keep his hands away from yucky stinky stuff. If he tolerates it, you could even get DS to stick stickers all over himself instead of pointing (or maybe a doll or a printout)!

DS1's SLT used a Mr Potato head with him to get him to use body parts PECS cards. That might be worth trying, but I've never actually seen it in the shops.

Was looking previously for some sort of interactive tools to teach body parts. The nearest I came was some parts of the body cards called "my body" bought the other day from The Works. They have the picture which you can slide apart to show the word. I don't know if you have that shop nearby. They were quite cheap too.

There is a velcro thing here but is expensive let me link you:

If you have access to a laminator could you print some body part pictures from the net and laminate?
HTH

Btw where did you get your puzzle from?

I haven't got any suggestions for resources, but also wonder whether bathtime would be good for teaching parts of the body - feed language such as arms, legs, shoulder etc whilst washing/drying etc then get him to touch them on him or you.

Ouryve - He can touch and name all the major body parts on himself, but finds it more difficult on other people (part of the problem is distinguishing between 'your' and 'my'). That's why I thought a picture would be better. We've got a Mr Potato Head (we got ours from Toymaster but I think you can get them on Amazon) which I'm going to use - but no good for hair, fingers, legs, knees etc!

Stary -since OP, I've found a great set of cards of body parts on Different Roads To Learning site. The only problem is, I need him to be able to identify them on a person, not separately, iyswim. There are various things on the Sense Toys site that are almost, but not quite right. The velcro thing is just the face and that 23 piece puzzle would be too hard for him.
I got my puzzle from a discount toy shop here in Street - not much good to you I expect! They've still got them and I'd offer to buy and post to you, but they're very thick and heavy, so probably not worth the postage.

what about a doll or beany of some suitable tv character that he likes?

Ooh, yes - could try Bob the Builder (dashes off to see if he has hair under his hat).

Bob too small and no hair - but Noddy will do nicely, especially if I surgically remove one of his shoes to reveal his toes . Thanks!

How do you get over the difference between 'your' and 'my' PipinJo? DS2 gets very confused - even if I say 'Touch Ds2's x' or 'touch Mummy's x'.

We used Mr Potato and photographed loads of body parts. 'Give me.....X' I can send you the photos by email if you think they'll be useful

PipinJo - I think it's clearer to do it your way! Trouble is, DS2 isn't totally clear about the difference between me and him yet!

Yurt - only on MN can I imagine writing this sentence: thank you, I would love some photos of your body parts

you can't - you can CAT (contact another talker) them, and then it's up to them to respond (the message gets sent via mnet HQ).

Still no joy Yurt - thought I'd tell you on here rather than via e-mail in case blueyonder isn't receiving messages either. Don't worry too much - DS2 seems to be getting on OK atm with Mr PH!

Ah yes, Mr Potato Head, it takes me back! I suppose you could use all sort of other dolls/action figures. Sphil, what you seem to be struggling with really is different, it is "my" "your" etc and also maybe gender aaargh! Maybe you should work on personal pronouns separately as well? Diff Roads always great for this sort of stuff. Do you have a copy of Flash! I think Diff Roads may sell it. It is a disc with TONS of digital photos on and sorted into things like body parts, prepositions, matching etc etc. Worth getting.

OK I've resent some piccies- let me know if they arrive.

Oh just read your post of Sunday about being able to do it on himself. Hmmm Could it be a language thing (he's just hearing 'nose' say rather thank 'your nose' vs 'my nose')
