Have been working with dd to teach her how to get down from her bed - she would get off our bed, the sofa and everything else but her bed.... felt it would be easier long term if she learnt how to get down from her bed without hurtling head first towards the ground....

WELL

today - come nap time, I put her down and went downstairs to hang some clothes out... thought she sounded rather loud for being in her room - came upstairs only to discover the cheeky monkey had slid down from her bed and was back out on her way to the lounge room!!!! smiling and waving at me the whole time. Well we then had about five goes at bed time... she finally gave in and went to sleep..

What have I done?!?!?

I am thinking stair gate time for her bedroom.... especially as we have internal staircase with banisters that she tried to climb through head first yesterday.....most are too small but we discovered that the end ones have a larger gap - just enough for a cheeky monkey to squeeze through and plummet to the concrete below.... can feel a trip to the hardware coming on too.... box in those banisters!!!

How funny, and strange you should say that. We have been teaching Lottie how to get off sofa and off our bed (she's still in cot at the moment), but thought to myself on Sunday, must stoip teaching her to get off our bed ready for when she gets her own bed, so hopefully she ponly associates getting down with the sofa and will stay in bed when she's in it. Not very likely but worth a shot i think, esp after your story, LOL!

strangely enough she did not try and get down from her bed when put to bed tonight... although we then had a storm which woke her and she just satup in her bed.. calling for us.. then after being with dh and I for the storm - telling us with a vigorous head shake and finger wag NO - it was not time for bed

Eidsvold, we had a stairgate on the bedroom door until ds1 got used to just staying in bed. Took a while but he did it eventually and no gate now. Mind you, will probably be back on soon for ds2 transition to bed - can't wait.

at your cheeky dd!
dd is now in a big bed,she kept on getting her limbs stuck through the bars of the cot!
Put her in a bed back in July, weird that she seemed confined to the bed, in the morning I'd open the door to find her sat upright on the pillow as if she 'couldn't' get down, even though she was physically capable. Didn't take her long to work it out! She now toddles across the room opens her door wide and sits with her legs through the bars of the safety gate! Another little cheecky monkey in her "cage!"

Oh ho ho! Definitely stair gate in the bedroom door! Caught my DS trying to leave his bedroom at 5am roday so sat in there huffing for 40 mins watching him keep himself awake stimming. Finally decided to go and locked his door! Had to wake him up at 8am....
