can i ask about the SN car seat you have. i stumbled across one on the britax seat, and altho dd2 doesnt 'need' one, i think she would be safer in one. she is onyl 2, but the size and weight of a 4+yr old. when she falls asleep in a high back booster she slumps and looks uncomfortable plus she slides down under the belt a bit. cant really use the harness seats anymore as she exceeds the weight limits on normal 2nd stage seats.

It is the britax one misdee, the junior traveller, look here

The bigger one is 500 quid and is massive, so you won't need that. The junior traveller is about £150. It's got an extra chest clip, less bucket shaped and lowered sides. Also comes with extra padding if you want to add it. Its a five point harness, so ds can't slide (something he does a lot). It's v good.

you dont think i'm mad for considering this do you

just dd2 really isnt safe in the weight range ones available to her now. what weight/age can the junior be used til? i'm hoping in 2 years she wont be slumping as much.

No not at all. The design of it would be v good for standard car seats imo.

Not the junior one, the bigger one is HUGE. It's the slight changes in design that make it good, like the extra chest clip, and the five point harness which is used throughout the life of the seat, rather than until the child gets to a certain age , and swaps to a 3 pointer iyswim

Someone told me that they got their SN car seat exempt from VAT. How exactly I don't know-I think they had a letter from their OT. Is this routine?

I've been looking at car seats as ds has really outgrown his Britax freeway but escapes from a normal booster seat in about two seconds flat, even before I've managed to get into my own seat!

We have been saving up for the Junior Traveller but recently noticed that the design of the Britax Elite has been changed so that you can use the five point harness up to age six. It hasn't got the special chest clip but ds already has a 'snugsit' (GLTC £12.99) which keeps him in car seat and major buggy beautifully.

Apart from the clip there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two if you don't need any of the special supports. The Elite is only £90 so we are hoping to get one this week.

Unless anyone knows a reason why we shouldn't?

Well, we've just been in to town and bought our Britax Elite and very smart it is too. The lady in the shop said it is the most popular seat for special needs. It looks as though ds will be able to use the five point harness for another three years and then it converts to use with normal seat belt so we should get our money's worth.

It is much lower in the seat so hopefully we can now get ds in and out without smacking his head on the door frame!
