Holiday in term time

Booked a holiday in October as its nearly £800 cheaper the week before they break up.ds2 goes to a special needs school,but a couple of my friends says I could get the £60 fine.has anybody been fined for taking dcs out of school. ??

A friend I know was fined for taking two of her kids out two days before summer break. It was around 90 pounds but then doubled as she tried to appeal it due to taking them abroad for a religious festival. Another friend always takes her kids out earlier and nothing happens, no fines or anything. It seems it's down to the school and how strict they are!

I know of several people who have took their children out and have not got fined.

However, I live in Cornwall. maybe schools turn a blind eye down where as many jobs here are seasonal therefore people aren't always able to holiday in the school holidays.

Maybe just say they are ill? I've known people to do that. 🙂

a good friend got fined for taking her severely autistic DS out of school to go on holiday for a week. DD attends the same school and head doesn't approve such things at all. it really depends on the school/head.

Could you not ask the school for permission and put your point across that because of your child's special needs they wouldn't be able to cope with the noise / crowds in holiday time? That's what we normally do - it's actually ds sister that we need the time off school for, she is 13 (he isn't at school yet) and never had an issue yet.

Sent email to school (ds not back until 6 September) office have recived the email and said will be past on to headmisstress when school reopens . Went to Alcudia a few weeks a go loved it so wanna go back .

fairy, you are very lucky to have such an understanding school. hours makes no exceptions, disability or not.

I live in Scotland and we don't do fines for holidays in termtime. I do take the kids out of school for holidays some years though as it is quieter during term time and they manage much better (or at all!) and would use the same reasoning to ask for permission at a school that imposed fines.

Tbh our special school place was so hard won, I wouldn't take DD out for a week's holiday just because it was cheaper, esp if we'd already been away a few months before. If it was the only time we could go because of her needs, I'd be explaining that to school and see if they said yes before booking rather than risk a fine.

If it saves you £800 then factor the fine into your holiday saving! It's still worth it to go then.

Well if I get fined then £60 is cheaper than paying the £800 first holiday was a bloody disaster(long story)
