Hi. I have an 11 year old ds who was diagnosed with asd 1 1/2 years ago. He's high functioning and attends mainstream school.
I also have an 8 year old dd. When she was younger ( up to the age of 5), I found her behaviour quite challenging. She was a very tantrumous child and very demanding. She was also quite sensory .... shoes, socks, labels, hand dryers etc were an issue but she slowly outgrew these behaviours.
She's very social, but does seem to get overly emotional about diagreements at school. She's keeping up academically . She has a great imagination ( unlike ds).
However she does seem to stim a bit. She claps her hands very fast in front of her face and breathes fast. She does this a few times a day lately. (Looking back, shes slways had some sort of stimming going on.) I thought she found it funny but when I asked her today why she does it..... she said it calms her !
Do kids without asd stim and should I be concerned with this behaviour, or is this another phase ?
Sorry for long post.
