Well first trip for anything with the potential to be serious and since ds1 has been dxed autistic. He couldn't wee. We were seen as urgent, admitted to the children's ward very quickly and he was given painkillers quickly (after which he weed) also consultant in A and E's dx appeared to be correct (ureter/bladder in spasm) and I wasn't given too much of a lecture for vax not being up to date.

Apart from NHS Direct putting the fear of god into me "if he collapses and stops breathing on the way to hospital pull over and dial 999" No? Really!

So usually I'm moaning about the NHS so thought I would put in a good word for them. Everyone was very understanding about the autism as well. They couldn't see in his throat, or take his blood pressure but otherwise he did pretty well as well.

Well that's one way of using up some school holiday time (see Eulalia and Coppertop)!! No, really, it must have been horrible to have to go but nice to then have an unexpected good experience. I know you don't have much to do but you should write and tell the powers that be about a good experience just as much as a bad one.
I avoid going to hospitals and the Dr's at all costs although I have nothing but praise for the NHS. Its often just a thankless task, "keep an eye on them, give them calpol if they get hot, phone us if they get worse", I can work that out for myself thanks.

Hope that he is OK now Jimjams, poor little mite, it must have been horrible for him.

I think that the NHS is a bit like the Services, often not so good on the routine things, but give them an emergency and they rise to it like the true pros that they are.

What vax is that jimjams? Good to hear you had a positive experience. Hope your ds wasn't too frightened by it all.

Yes you're right Davros. I should do. I was very impressed how kind they were to ds1 as well. We had a great porter take him up to the children's ward- he chucked some paramedics (with empty stretcher) and some nurses out of a lift and turned it around to take us up to the ward. DS1 quite liked the wheelchair as well.

Thank god we weren't in the queue for the fracture clinic though! That was bedlam.

Any vax Eulalia- we're not giving any more. At least it wasn't ds2 (none at all), ds1 is only just out of date with eveything.

The only problem is they gave him aspartame containting calpol and nurofen. First time he's had the stuff in 2 years and he is bouncing off the walls tonight. It has finally gone quiet though.

Wow, I AM impressed! I really dread the thought of my ds going in to hospital - when he was just a year old he had an infection in his foreskin (couldn't see anything, but apparently that's what it was). The female doc said she wanted to look at it but he wasn't having any of it - she wouldn't believe me when I said he wouldn't like it - and although she scoffed at me, it took 3 nurses and me to hold him down just so she could look at him! That showed her I knew what I was talking about!

Honestly, it's great that they took the autism into consideration. My ds always refuses to have tests and bp done etc. I used to get stressed about it, but there isn't any point really is there?

Glad to hear he's okay now. It must have been a scare for all of you.

Davros - I'll put A&E on my list of places to visit with ds1. I'm not sure which of us will be the patient though. At the moment it could go either way!

Glad to hear he is okay JimJams. Well done to your DS!

Of course I was forgetting that they would ask these kind of questions. Never had the 'pleasure' of visiting A&E myself

Coppertop, that would be funny if we all got our friends and their SEN kids together in the holidays to visit hospitals, GP surgeries etc. It would teach them something and use up that neverending time!
