Just wanted to share a proud parent moment! DS is 16, diagnosed Aspergers when he was six, lots of communication and behaviour issues inc. aggression through primary school but he had good support and stayed in mainstream, and things steadily improved especially at secondary school. He’s always been good at maths and this week he went off for 5 days to a maths summer school, in a different city with people he’d never met, and sharing a bedroom with another student. DH took him there on the train and from there on DS was on his own until DH brought him back. DH and I were a bit tense all week - just one two-word text from him! But it had a smiley face.
And now he’s back. He had a great time, learned about knots and number theory, went bowling and watched the talent show. And sat up late talking to his roommate about prime numbers and squares . I’m proud of him for the maths but I’m most proud that he handled 5 days away from home!
