MY DS now 16, diagnosed AS but main area of need on statement is social phobia. He was recently diagnosed Selective Mute.He can talk/understand perfectly well when not in anxiety provoking situation. He does not have challenging behaviour and is academically able but missed out on school so not done GCSES.
We are having such trouble finding a school - the AS/D ones don't seem right - don't offer full curriculum and ? peer group. The SPld generally don't 'get' the anxiety. I have found an indie MS school, with good SEN for SPld which would consider employing a TA. they do just the right courses for him. I can see this might work if a day place but he would need to board, and that will be a huge hurdle.
IF we really do need ASD school, does anyone know of one which would be suitable, ( we've tried most I think) and where they are allowed off site independently?
