anyone else got letter from school about TB injection??

ds has come home with letter about TB injections, i thought it was only given at seniour school age??

ds had his bcg in secondry which is for tb. never heard of it being done at primary

Is the school in a high-risk area? That may be the reason. If not then I have no idea why it's being done at primary school age.

We got letters last week from primary school.

They are re-introducing TB vaccinations for high-risk groups because of rising TB in this country.

I was born in Africa so dss are in high-risk group - they are not impressed

Some areas do them at birth (chiefly city centres). Maybe your area's been reclassified as high risk and they're trying to mop up the primary school children?

the letter says the department of health has decided to change the way children are offered BCG vaccination to help protect against TB, they say they are going to assess each childs risk to TB and if your child is at risk then arrangements will be made to vaccinate.

With everything and ASD it just makes me weary when they change vaccinations when they are due or change the ingrediants.

it says the statstics for birmingham 2004 were 23 cases of TB in children aged 5-14

we are definatly not high risk but have had these letters

My two had BCG at 3 months old because they are at risk because my mum has had TB.

Alot of areas are re-introducing it now because risks have increased.
