Anyone interested in another Moondog training session?

Evening all.

I went to Moondog's training session in B'ham earlier this year and found it really useful as well as enjoying the opportunity to meet other MNers.

I wondered if anyone would be interested in attending another one - perhaps in the SE this time?

For me personally, I'd love to consolidate some of what was covered at the first session and being totally selfish, would also want to cover some topics that would be relevant to my DD starting school next year.

For those who don't know, Moondog is a regular poster here. She is a v experienced SALT with an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

The session some of us attended in B'ham was really an introduction to ABA with Moondog and her colleague sharing several practical ABA-based techniques that they have used very successfully with children with SN - to help both with communication and learning.

So, if you're interested and think you could help me persuade Moondog to run another course, please post below giving an indication of what would be helpful to you and what region would suit you best (SE, Midlands etc). If there's enough common ground, then we might be able to set something up.

Many thanks

Hi Lisa and Coff thanks for your replies. I would do Bristol at a push Grin. Let's see who else is interested and see where that takes us.

Hi Mess, does Moondog know about this? Grin

If it goes ahead I would love to go again. Like you, I would be quite happy with much of the material covered again. Some of what I learned I have implemented, some I need reminding about, and some of what I have done could do with a revisit to refine, and no doubt there is more out there to learn,

So I suppose what I am saying, is that I would be keen to attend whether it is new stuff or a re-run of the last lot.

I'd be up for it, I couldn't make it to B'ham last time.

I would be very interested. Am in the SE but could make Bristol.

Hi Star. I did ask Moondog if she'd be willing and in principle she would be Grin so I'm sounding things out and am happy to organise something if it looks like we have enough people, common aims and a location that works for the majority.

zzzzz and JoMaman please can you let me know what sort of topics it would be useful for you to cover and what areas you'd be willing to travel to?

In terms of cost, obviously unknown at the moment, but there are various ways we could keep costs down by using low cost venue, catering for ourselves etc.

Will let this thread run for a while and see what comes out of it. Am getting a teeny bit excited though Smile

God yes, especially if it's in the SE. Signing in.

Ah. I couldn't make Bristol. Isn't that SW, rather than SE?

Report
messmonster · 10/11/2012 02:20

Hi Couthy. You're right Bristol is defo SW Grin. Suggested SE originally but Coff, who's in Cornwall, mentioned Bristol was the farthest she could come which is why there are a couple of subsequent references to it.

I think we'd have to go with what worked for the majority. So, it could be SE or Bristol at the moment, depending on what feedback there is.

Keep an eye on the thread....

Yes, and SE. Really interested in ABA, although DD has no diagnosis.

I'd come again, but only if there was enough space!

Thanks for the additional interest this morning. Looks like we have 10 interested at the moment subject to location and cost.

zzzzz The data capture paperwork that you mention would definitely be right up Moondog's street - we covered this last time to an extent so could consolidate on that for sure. As an intro into ABA I think you'd also find it useful - the session last time gave us the background but we quickly moved on to applying the strategies.

Will keep this thread bumped for the next few days and then take a view next week as to where we are and what the next steps might be Smile

Yes I'd be interested and would prefer south-east.

Would be interested... I'm in Essex but would come to Bristol.

I'm in Essex too, but can't get to Bristol. Would prefer something London-ish, that's about as far as I can go in a day. (Far side of Essex, near Suffolk).

I would be interested, and I am in Essex too

Looks a pretty even split - 3 Essex, 3 Bristol, 4 SE, 1 Herts.

StarlightMcKenzie · 10/11/2012 16:39

I would have thought Essex and Herts were SE, at least that is what I used to tell people when I lived in both those places.

I count 5 that could make it to Bristol even at a ppppush Grin

But seriously though that really isnt enough to drag moondog all the way here so it does make sense to make it central for the majority. :)
