Good news about DS1

Having had DS2's diagnosis meeting yesterday, we had a meeting with DS1's teacher and SENCO today. (He has dyspraxic traits and was given an IEP after first half term in Reception.)It was so positive! His teacher says he's made progress in all areas and has achieved all the targets on his IEP. She said he's 'an ace reader', kind and popular with the other children, and finished by describing him as her 'treasure'. Of course, I've always known he's lovely but it's so nice when someone else says it!

I was particularly pleased about his social abilities as I'd been a bit worried that he isolated himself a bit.He still has some difficulties with concentration, coordination and disordered speech but they're working on that and gave us some ideas to help him at home. Even PE (which I'd assumed would be dire) was not that bad - she said he doesn't stick out as being particularly different though he's not very coordinated. He'd told us that he was the only one who needed to take the teacher's hand to jump off the vaulting horse but she said at least half the class do!!! Came out feeling SO relieved - after our news about DS2 yesterday it would have been hard if the meeting about DS1 had been full of doom and gloom.

I bet you're relieved and proud that your ds is doing so well at school. Unless you get feedback like that it's so hard to know how well they're actually managing at school, god knows I conjure up all sorts of images of my ds at school. It sounds like your ds is doing incredibly well. Good for him

Well done to ds1 and also the staff for doing such a good job of helping him. I'm glad that it's also made you feel better too.

It's also reassuring because we're considering the same school for DS2 who is autistic. I know they'll do their best to support him and if it doesn't work, well I don't think any m/s school would work for him.

That's great and it sounds like a good choice if you're going to try m/s for DS2.
