Has anyone had any experience of this therapy? A clinic is opening up opposite our house! On the flyer they sent round it says it's a gentle massage which treats the body holistically and has been used to great effect with children with autism, aspergers, cerebal palsy, dyspraxia and slow development. I'm a bit sceptical about alternative treatments, although DS2 has had great benefit from cranial osteopathy. Just wondered if anyone on mumsnet had tried it with their child?

My DH had a bowen therapist help him sort out his bad back, presume its the same thing. He had been in agony for a long time, Osteopath didnt seem to do anything so he went to see a Bowen Therapist after his Mum tried one. Sorted out his back really well and he thinks they are the bees knees. His Mum also goes, for no particular reason and loves it, never heard of anyone taking children.

My mum swears by it for her back pain. It seems a bit too alternative to me though -she says they don't even touch you - but 'unlock' energy channels.

I have a friend who is a Bowen Practitioner - not working with young children as far as I know - but I could ask her for some more info and maybe a recommended colleague close to where you live. It'll be midweek before I can find out more sphil!

Thanks everyone- and Marina, that would be great. I can understand how it might work for back pain etc, but not for conditions like autism.

I have a neighbour who is a Bowen practitioner. I keep meaning to try her out with ds2. My friend whose daughter (aged 2)has CP has been having sessions with her and she thinks that they are beneficial

sphil, my Bowen Practitioner friend would like to know whereabouts roughly in the UK you are so she can recommend a local contact...

Marina - I'm in East Sussex. Have rung the woman who is starting the clinic and booked DS2 in for an introductory session. But would be good to get feedback from your friend too.

Let's see if she comes up with the same name! If she is anything to go by Bowen practitioners are all very nice though I will ask her tomorrow. She's not local to you but not 100s miles away either!
