Hi,

I am due to have dc1 in July and I am looking for a recommendation for a sling. Basically, I would like to know which ones are the quickest and easiest to put on but are also suitable for warmer weather and breastfeeding? I'm not sure how important this will be but I am quite petite. I was looking at the baba sling as it looked very quick to get on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I really liked the Moby Wrap and Kari Me stretchy wrap slings when DD was tiny. They both took some practise to get on though. I'm not sure if they would be suitable in a hot climate but they were fine in the house over winter 20-24 degrees.

I am now using an ErgoBaby carrier with DD as I felt she was too heavy with the stretchy.

Are you in the UK? If so, you can find out about your nearest sling library or sling meet here www.babywearing.co.uk/localsupport You'll have a much better idea if you try something in person rather than relying on word of mouth etc.

I am not really a fan of the Baba Sling and most people who come to my sling library with one complain of it being anything-but-easy.

I wouldn't breastfeed any tiny baby in a carrier personally, because of the risk of asphyxiation. You can use some carriers, e.g. a stretchy wrap, to help to support the baby whilst sitting down, although not for totally hands-free-on-the-move breastfeeding.

Some things to google to see if you like the look of them:

  • Stretchy wraps like the Hana Baby or Boba Wrap or Kari Me (not the Moby - it's too thick and hot in summer imo)
  • Adjustable mei tais like the Hop Tye, Neobulle Evolubulle, Girasol MySol, Didytai etc
  • More structured waisted carriers like the Hoppediz Bondolino
  • Soft structured carriers suitable from newborn like the Manduca. I don't like the Ergo in summer because the infant insert is hot. But to be honest buckle carriers like this are brilliant for 5+ months but not my favourite for a small baby.

Eurgh the baba sling is crap!! It really didn't work for me. Really uncomfortable on my shoulder baby looked squished and never quite right. Could never seem to adjust it so it felt right. I have the baby bjorn (which some slate re: hips-although I took it to drs when my baby had a hip scan and he said it was fine) find it so easy
