Slings and backpacks

Good for nursing, not too complicated....

Hello!

OK, it sounds like I want it all, but....

Can anyone recommend a sling that is:

*good for breastfeeding in (discreetly if possible)
*not too complicated to put on
*comfortable and snuggly for a newborn

Not sure if these are considerations, but...

*I am fairly tall, have a long back and big (fairly low-slung?!) knockers - don't I sound like a catch? Smile

Stretchy wrap. The Hana Baby Wrap or Wrapsody Bali Breeze or Boba Wrap are all snuggly and not too thick for summer. It seems a bit complicated to put on the first couple of times, but you can practice before your baby arrives. You put the wrap on first then pop baby in using the stretch so not too tricky for the bit with the baby.

I wouldn't recommend breastfeeding a small baby in any carrier to be honest. Manufacturers often say it can be done but I have concerns around safety (am a babywearing consultant and trainer). You can use one side of a stretchy wrap cross to help support your baby and provide some privacy whilst sitting down and supporting him with your hand too, but I wouldn't feed on the go because of the risk of asphyxiation in a low cradle position, and a risk of choking. Once he or she is 6 months + it's much safer, feeding upright.

Thanks Pootlebug. In your expert opinion, is the Moby Wrap any good? I'd come to similar conclusions regarding a stretchy wrap and for the sake of economy was considering the Moby (it has fair reviews and I can pick one up second hand on Ebay...)

It looks to be fairly similar to the Hana Baby Wrap you suggested - are there any major pros over the Moby that you know of?

Thanks again.

The Moby is really thick so hot for summer. It's not as stretchy as some of the others I suggested. If you want to pick up a cheapish 2nd hand one I'd favour the Kari Me over the Moby as it is thinner.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that at all. Thanks! I like the look of the Hana Wrap - will shop around and see if I can pick up a bargain.
