Slimming World

Ive been trying to do it alone and it isn't working - what's different about actually joining?

Ok so I've got the jist of it online.

1 hex B a day (so I've been having either weetabix or brown bread)
1 hex A a day (Ive been having milk)
Upto 15 syns a day (I very rarely go over this).

So why am I not losing weight?

I do tend to stick to my diet all day and then eat naughty stuff on a night but why would that change if I join up officially?

I'm desperate to loose a stone - if I can be convinced joining an actual class will help me - I will do so today!

P.S. I drink a lot of alcohol on a weekend, around 5 cans of lager on a friday and a saturday night each. I suspect this may be the issue however it's only two days a week! would cutting this out really help my weight loss even thought it's just a two day habit?

I suspect you are actually going over your syn amount as you are counting things as free when they aren't. Your alcohol alone is well over your syn allowance on fridays and saturdays. Alcohol is empty calories really - the amount of food you could eat for the same amount of syns is quite a bit. Maybe try cutting down your alcohol intake?

Also, are you having a lot of fruit and veg? 1/3 of your meals should be speed foods (some types of fruit and veg). That may be another reason for your lack of weight loss.

Another thing that helps is to make sure you are drinking lots of water.

10 cans of lager is 90 syns. Which is a lot :-) what naughty things are you eating within your syns?

Actually, it's a weeks worth!

You only get a maximum of 105 syns a week and, if the above is accurate, you're blowing most of it on lager AND eating to your allowance every day.

It will make a difference, I promise. My mum gave up her Friday and Saturday night cider habit and lost three stone without changing anything else.

I switched to the sainsburys low alcohol Czech lager. It's lovely and 1 syn for a 500ml bottle. If you're not aiming to get drunk I found it a good swap!

Also the best bit of going to class is the support from other people. I have joined online before and didn't last long as I didn't have 'the fear' of someone physically weighing me and it meant I cheated.

I have lost 5 stone and got to target in May Smile

squeaky, does that low alcohol still taste like lager though? I've tried alcohol free beers and they're rank.

Lager is my downfall (especially in summer) and I've completely cut it out but fancy a glass.

It is the best one I have had, it's made by a proper Czech brewery. It's not quite the same as the real thing but worth a try

That's great to know, thank you!

I've also experimented with low alcohol lager as I like a cold beer and don't drink diet drinks, or any other fizzy pop really - was OK. I'll look out for the sains one.

OP, are you having plenty of superfree food (veg/salad, most fruit)? You're supposed to make a third of each meal superfree. Your HEB bread is supposed to be wholemeal, not just brown - is it? I can't see that stopping you from losing weight though, its just so you get enough fibre, which you may be anyway if you eat veg, pulses, etc

As others have said, you're also going way over on your syns due to the lager and still having syns in the week, so that will be part of it.

However, going over your syns by a moderate amount on it's own won't stop you losing weight completely. I've lost a stone in about 4 months on SW but I haven't tried that hard and have had at least 200 syns most weeks. I am quite active though and my meals are probably smaller than most.

I did it for 3 months on my own and did well, but then hit a plateau. I then joined a group and the feeling of dread at having a gain is enough to make me stick at it ;) I've lost almost 4st and have 16lbs to go.

However, cutting out your alcohol and maybe adding in a few sp days should get the ball rolling for you.
