Just wondering if mine is a normal sleeper?

Mine is now nearly 2.5 but her sleeping habits have remained the same since she was at least a year old. Bed by 7-7.30 and usually asleep within 15 minutes or so (usually less). Asleep all night until usually anytime between 7 and 8 am apart from this week when she's been waking a good hour if not more earlier. She won't stay in her cot once she's awake (cries hysterically) so I've had some early starts this week. She does not nap at all during the day and has never done so reliably even when very young.

Here's a not normal one for you to compare with...

At that age, DS would take about an hour and a half to settle, so asleep by about 8.30 pm.

He would wake about 4 times a night, sometimes more, rarely less.

He would be up for the day by 5.45am.

He would nap for about 1.5-2 hours, waking once and needing to be resettled.

He's 2.10 now, and very slightly better...

At 21m ds sleeps about 8pm to anywhere between 6am and 8:30am (once it was 9:10!) He also sleeps an hour most days. But to be fair he woke 2-3x a night (usually for feeding) for the first 18m!

Ds is 20 months.

Goes to bed at 6.45, usually settles himself straight away.

Wakes up anything between 2 and 5 times a night, needs to be settled/put the right way round in his cot/blankets rearranged

Wakes up between 5.30 and 6.30 - usually a lot closer to 5.30

Goes down for an 1-1 1/2 hours at around 10.30

Ds is 18m.

He goes to bed at 7pm, takes about 15 mins to settle, then wakes between 6-7am.

Sleeps for about 1.5 hours at around midday.

You lucky buggers with nicely sleeping children!

DS is 20 months, goes to sleep about 7.30-8pm, has to have Daddy in the room to hlp him settle!

Wakes at 5am, usually goes back to sleep after a cuddle and some milk (but sometimes does not and 5am is way too early).

Often wakes up around 2am if teething/ has cold/ cough.

Sleeps for 1.5 hrs after lunch at about 12.30

oh, we still settle ds - pin him down til he stops getting off the bed , then lie with him til he gets off to sleep. He was one of those babies who Would Not Be Put Down and I've not broken the habit yet

Mine is 22 mo. She goes to bed when I do and rarely goes to sleep before 11pm, sometimes later

If I'm really lucky she sleeps until about 6am when she has a quick BF then goes back to sleep. I get her up at 8am for nursery (although sometimes she comes to find me in the bathroom at 7.30)

She sleeps for an hour or so in the day, but not always. Yesterday after a trip to the zoo she slept for 3 hours. (sadly that was from 4- 7pm so she wouldn't go to sleep until after midnight)

DS is 23mo. Sleeps roughly 8-8 though wakes perhaps one night in three, generally just needs a quick pat and goes back to sleep.

He naps for 90 minutes from 12.30-2.

He was an appalling sleeper when little so I feel like I've earned a bit of decent sleep now!

Thanks, am feeling a bit better now.

My DD 22 months sleeps, 7-8 and usually wakes about 6 am. When she's not 100% well she'll wake a few times and needs her back rubbed. She's given up her afternoon nap too.

DH finds it hard that she wakes up so early and I just wanted to show him that other kids wake early too.

I wouldn't worry -- it can change. DS went through a loooooooooong phase of waking much earlier (6am would be considered a good night) then all of a sudden started going later.

nappyaddict I hadn't really thought about it. I'd like her to go to sleep before 10pm..

nappyaddict · 18/01/2009 15:37

OK so that's only an hour earlier than what she goes at the moment. Have you tried gradually tweaking her bedtime routine bringing it forward 5 mins each night.

Sushipaws- there may be hope for the early mornings! DD is 21 months and until 2 weeks ago never up later than 6.30am and for much of her life 5.30am (with 7.30pm bedtime and 1.5hr nap). Now for some unknown reason she is regularly doing 7.30am with same bedtime and nap and (whisper it) on Sat slept till 8.45am!!!

My difficulty is she sleeps with me, so I can't put her up to bed on her own. If I go to bed early she won't go to sleep, so I can't sleep until she is.

Why can't you put her up on her own?

My DS is 2.1 years we try and get him into bed for 7 - 7.30. Last night I put him down about 7.30 after his bath and 3 stories, I put a dvd on for him and told him I was going to "do some washing" and I would check on him in a while, (I found if I told him it was bedtime he would throw a tantrum) when DH went in 45 mins later he was asleep, but this was with him being up since 6.30 and no nap. He got up at 6.30 this morning.

Recently he's gone back to having a nap in the afternoon, the only thing is, he then won't sleep until 8.30 - 9 but if he doesn't nap he falls asleep before dinner so can't win either way.

Our ds is 18 months and a nightmare to get to sleep. He never naps during the day and runs around until about 1/2 11, sometimes later.
He sleeps for a few hours and then wakes up screaming and will only settle when he comes in beside us.
I'm thinking about taking him to a cranial osteopath today as we are almost at breaking point.

my ds is 23 months and in the process of dropping his last daytime nap. If he still naps he sleeps in teh afternoon for 2 hours then at night 7pm-9am.If he has no nap he is in bed by 5.30-9am. Must say I have been blessed with no sleeping issues. DD is 22weeks in the making, due in may 2009 and I think she will be the opposite from her brother and never sleep!
