Tired Mum

I have 17 month old who for the past few weeks has been waking up at 5-6am, she wakes up crying every morning, I have tried to settle her back down, but she won't go, however by 7.30 am she is grumpy and tired, I have bought some blackout curtains, however she is still waking up.
On sat 31 may my mum told me that she had watched mums the word on discovery and there was a lady with the same problems as mine and within a week they had managed to get her daughter sleeping longer? Does anyone know about this programme or can anyone help.
