Sleep

10m old won't sleep in different room

We're renovating at home and 10 month old DS2 screams when I put him in his new room to sleep. I try to go through the same routine for naps and bedtime and his schedule hasn't changed but he's livid when put down alone in his new room. Meanwhile, he was happy to go to bed alone when in the old room. What gives? Is this not really strange at this young age? I cannot believe that he would be so unadaptable. This is also a problem because he'll wake up screaming at 5:30am and wake DS1 - who is then a cranky toddler all day . Anyone else have similar experiences? How can I ease the pain of the transition? How long will it take for him to settle?

Does the new room smell? If you have just painted or decorated, maybe it smells funny.

Could you also sleep in the room with him for a few days so he got used to it being okay?

Or give him a nightlight?
