how many hours nap does your 2 year old have?

we're wondering if we should cut back his afternoon nap as he is harder and harder to put to bed at night.

his sister still had 2 hours nap in the afternoon and still went for 12 hours in the night at age 3, but i think my DS will be different.

thanks

1 to 3pm
130 to 330 pm
sometimes even 2pm to 4pm

he has recently moved to a bed and is playing silly buggers and now end up awake till about 1030

i think it is partly the bed thing but i think maybe we ought to cut back on the nap....

he sleeps about 1 1/2 hours most days from 12ish onwards. He does wake up stupidly early though so only sleeps 10 1/2 to 11 hours at night.

He probably is playing up because of the bed.

My ds1 could nap for England - he was still napping when he started school! Dd dropped her nap at about 4.5y.

I found that, especially around 2-3y, late naps really mucked up bedtimes. I would make sure the LOs were up by 3, 3.30 absolute latest, no matter what time they had gone down. So ideally they would go down by 1pm, as they routinely napped 2h. But if they went down later, then I didn't wait for them to wake, but got them up myself.

Before trying to drop the nap - because it would be hard to reinstate - why not try shifting his bedtime? Try putting him to bed an hour or more later than normal for a little while. Get him back into the habit of falling asleep.

my ds was having 2 hours nap then sleeping about 10 hours a night.waking once in night but going back off as soon as he had his cow in his handthen he stopped napping completly when he went into a bed.but we discovered a long walk in the mornings means i can usually get him to nap for about 2 hours!only thing is it doesnt seem to work when his siblings arent at school-afraid he might miss something!

DD (2.6) hasn't had a daytime nap for about 5 months, so it is entirely possible that he doesn't need to sleep in the day anymore.

Take him out in the afternoon for a day or two and see what happens.

i'm in mourning for the afternoon nap and the 12 hour nightly sleep.

my DS up and down about 5 times a night trying to get him to sleep in the evening, and suddenly my bed is the place to be for him!

its just a phase... its just a phase... its just a phase (hopeful emoticon]

I actively try and prevent dd having naps as she does not sleep at 7.30pm if I let her nap - certainly try to restrict to 1/2hr - she does kip in the bugy though if I am out in middle of the day.

Ds also dropped his nap when he was around two.
