So far we have been putting dd in a nappy, vest & sleepsuit with a sheet and 1 blanket over her, as recommended by our grobag egg which is always on orange (i.e. warm 20-24C). Today we bought a 1 tog sleeping bag as she keeps kicking the covers off and there is no longer enough to tuck in properly. Now, it says at that temp with 1 tog bag baby should wear a long sleeve bodysuit/vest only (and nappy obviously!). I worry she will be too cold like that. I know that the risk of SIDS is with overheating but the sleeping bag looks only like a sheet and thin fleece, which IMO is equivalent to a sheet and blanket. So why the difference in clothing.

Mothercare coverlet is fleece backed with cotton and is 1 tog, that is like a sheet and blanket.

What should I do? What do you all do?

Hi,

I used to dress my ds in the grobag, vest and sleepsuit and kept the emperature at 19 degrees, but he was constantly waking up with cold hands and nose. As a result, I decided to leave the temperature at one that I found comfortable (21C) and just dressed him in a 2.5 tog grobag and his nappy plus a sleepsuit (no vest) or a long-sleeved vest. He seemed much happier this way.

If you are using a 1 tog grobag then I would expect him to need maybe a sleeveless vest or short-sleeved under his sleepsuit, but that would depend on whether the temperature is nearer 20 or nearer 24?
